It is only 2 kilometres outside the coastal town of Dundalk and less than a 45 minute drive from Dublin or Belfast airports. Lying at the eastern edge of the Wolds, Louth is a busy market town with an maze of narrow streets and predominantly Georgian and early-Victorian architecture. There are some notable historic buildings including the 15th-century St.James' Church whose 295ft high spire, the tallest in England, dominates the skyline. Lately it's also become known for an astronaut, Michael Foale, who was born in Louth. The place has a somewhat twee image, but there's more to the town than quaint markets and old-fashioned architecture.
