Many of the original features were retained in order that the property could keep its essential character. The rooms are all exceptionally spacious, each is different, and each is furnished differently.Our bar is large enough to accommodate a good crowd, yet remains intimate. Being close to Dundee's two universities, The Shaftesbury attracts many visiting academics. Business visitors find the hotel is very convenient for the commercial sector of town too. A wide selection of malt whiskies can be sampled in the Garden Bar. Our licence is restricted to residents and restaurant guests only, so you can be sure of a quiet, relaxing evening. The Shaftesbury has established a reputation for the quality and variety of its food, cooked by chef Bill Morrison, who has worked with Dennis Smith for over twenty years. He especially loves cooking Scottish Game dishes. Due to the age of the building, the Shaftesbury Hotel does not have a lift.
