Unveiled in 1961 in front of a crowd that included Judy Garland and Noël Coward, then called The Summit – the hotel was the talk of the town for its ideal midtown location and mid-century modern look. Designed by famed architect Morris Lapidus, the building’s curving façade coated in sea foam-colored brick was an extreme contrast to the somber hues and straight lines of the surrounding skyscrapers. During the next two decades, the bright colors were traded in for muted tones. The hotel’s popularity with people seeking a prime Manhattan location as a base for their city travels. Today, the original mid century modernist glory of the hotel has been restored and refined with 21st century amenities. |

This Midtown Manhattan boutique hotel occupies the splendidly restored American Radiator Building, completed in 1924. The gothic-inspired tower, with its black-brick exterior accented with gold terracotta, was the subject of the Georgia O’Keeffe’s 1927 painting Radiator Building—Night, New York. The lobby, by contrast, is completely up-to-the-moment, with lipstick-red furnishings, glossy black marble, a customized music mix, and elevators bathed in red light. The hotel is popular with trend setting travelers, including boldface names in the fashion, music, and movie industries. |

A luxurious retreat with the style and manner of an elegant private mansion. A tree-lined sidewalk. The original 1923 French limestone facade completely restored. A pair of five-foot-tall brass carriage lamps framing double mahogany front doors. The welcoming limestone-and-granite lobby is decorated with a gleaming grandfather clock and an enormous spray of fresh-cut flowers. |
