Founded as priory in the 13th century by an Order of the Carmelites, The Red Lion Hotel is close to the M11, the A11 and Whittlesford Parkway Train Station. The owners have preserved and restored the original history and character of this listed building, whilst providing modern facilities. The hotel's exquisite beams, hand carved by the monks, are still as strong today as they were over 800 years ago. Duxford Chapel originally formed part of the hotel. The Red Lion Hotel is located 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Cambridge and 8 miles (13 km) from Saffron Walden. Trains from Whittlesford Parkway head to Cambridge and London.
