Hotel Summary rooms from £85.00The Old Rectory has stood for over 500 years, though it was modernised in 1812 by the great-grandson of Sir Christopher Wren, who lived in the house for 40 years. The site itself is steeped in history; the Doomsday Book listed a building here, and along one boundary of the grounds runs the original Roman built Icknield Street. Today the emphasis is on hospitality and creating a relaxed, warm atmosphere and memorable stay for guests. All of the comfortable bedrooms one of which is reputedly haunted - differ in shape, size and decor, with some featuring exposed beams, and one with a barrel ceiling. Dinner is served each night in the conservatory. Set in 3 acres of wooded gardens, it is peaceful and relaxing, ideal for business meetings, conferences or equally ideal for private dinner parties, weddings and other family occasions.
