Welcome to The Oak House Hotel

Address: The Square, Axbridge, BS26 2AP

Hotel Description

The Oak House Hotel is situated in the medieval town of Axbridge, at the foot of the Mendip Hills and looking out over the natural beauty of the Somerset Levels. Cheddar Gorge is only a 5-minute drive away and is the largest in the UK. Free Wi-Fi, a TV with DVD player and tea/coffee making facilities are included in all of The Oak House's rooms. Parts of the hotel date back to the 11th century and original features include an ancient well and a large inglenook fireplace. Locally sourced produce, including strawberries and cheese from Cheddar are used to create the modern British dishes served in the restaurant. Axbridge town square is surrounded by narrow medieval streets, elegant town houses and a Georgian Town Hall. Bristol International Airport and seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare are just a 25-minute drive from the hotel.

The course features breathtaking panoramic views over the Mendip Hills, Cheddar Valley, Glastonbury Tor and the Somerset Levels from the gently undulating fairways. It has been carefully designed to maintain and enhance the existing environment, the many mature trees and hedgerows create a natural parkland setting. The course is an 18 hole par 70 of just over 6000 yards, consisting of 2 nine hole loops both of which start and finish at the clubhouse. It will definitely provide a challenge for the experienced golfer with some tight driving holes and tricky par 3s, whilst also being gentle enough for the less skilful player.
