Although the ground has not had the level of new investment some other clubs have recently received, it is still a beautiful ground oozing character. It has four large separate two tiered stands, which are all covered. The South Stand on one side of the ground is the largest of the stands and is superb looking. Unfortunately, only one corner of the ground is filled (see picture below), between the West and North Stands. This area is uncovered. In the other corner is a small electric scoreboard. Outside the ground near the main entrance is a memorial to the 96 fans who died at Hillsborough in 1989, at the FA Cup Semi Final between Liverpool & Nottingham Forest. The memorial is normally covered in flowers left by those who wished to pay their respects.

Club formed in 1870. On one side is the partly covered all seater Main Stand, which in common with the rest of the ground, has a number of supporting pillars. It is about 2/3rds of the length of the pitch and to one side, some strange looking executive boxes/administration offices have been erected. I say strange, as they look like a load of Portakabins that have been bolted together. The corner at this part of the ground is open and overlooked by a railway bridge. On my last visit, this had many supporters viewing the game for free. The other side, the Millmoor Lane Stand, has a mixture of covered and open seating.

Oakwell Stadium today is a far cry from the football ground graced the Grove Street site until the 1990's. Following the Hillborough Disaster in 1989 major football stadiums were forced to go all-seater. Work at Oakwell took place between 1992 and 1998. The result is a fantastic arena for both supporters at Oakwell, combining state-of-the-art stadium construction with excellent facilities. The South Stand was built prior to the 1995/6 season and replaced the original Pontefract Road End of Oakwell. At present it has a capacity of 4508 and is sponsored by Enterprise plc.
