Very Pleasant Stay
We enjoyed very much our weekend at Gipsy Hill Hotel. Our satnav had difficulty finding it from Pinhoe because a nearby road has been turned into a cycle lane and the satnav kept trying to direct us up it. Once found though, the hotel proved to be comfortable and restful.

Good
Our daughter had a hockey match in Exeter, so we chose this hotel as it was close to the pitch. Whilst being a little dated the facilities were excellent. Rooms comfortable and clean, although the bed in our room was very high! The staff were very friendly and helpful and made a sandwich for our daughter for before the match and wished her good luck. Our evening meal was ok but the breakfast was excellent very tasty and hot. Thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay.

the most important thing i can say about the staff is their honesty. i managed to leave behind my ipad, they kept it safe until it was collected.

A Hidden Gem
This was my second stay at this lovely hotel within easy reach of Exeter Aiport. All the staff were friendly and welcoming;even if they were just walking past they had a welcoming smile & word or two. The room was very large and well furnished; very large and comfy bed with a good sized TV and a 3 seater sofa. The bathroom was also large and although a little tired looking it was very functional; the shower worked really well and the bath was long enough for a good long soak after a tiring drive, and the big, white fluffy towels were the best I have had in a very long time. I ate in the restaurant; good old fish & chips with very fresh fish exceptionally well cooked and reasonably priced; as was the starter of prawn & crab tian. Compared with the hotel chains I usually stay in Gipsey Hill Hotel outdid them on price; comfort and food. Will stay again.

Staying for three nights we found the hotel just off the beaten track in a quiet location. The hotel gave us an upgrade to a room with a fourposter bed. My son stayed one night in a well appointed single room. The facilities were excellent and the staff remarkably helpful and the food superb. The ambience had echoes of the 19th century with remarkable furnishings in the public areas and plenty of oil paintings. The service was efficient but friendly. My husband and I stayed at this hotel from 22/02/2016 - 28/02/206. We can only praise the staff at this hotel for such an excellent stay. The restaurant definitely punches above its weight. In particular two of the managers, Sue and Thiery were amazing and could not do enough to make our stay so good. We usually stay at 5 star hotels but I have to say our stay at this hotel was one of the best experiences we have had anywhere in the world. What is lacking in amenities is made up for by the staff who actually care about their customers - that is a rare quality in this day and age. Well done to everyone

Peaceful Overnight Stop
We were a little concerned about some of the reviews we had read before we arrived, but these were mainly unfounded. When we arrived, the receptionist was polite and welcoming, and even offered to get her manager to help my husband take out luggage upstairs, which we politely declined. We didn't eat in the evening at the hotel, choosing instead to pop down to Exmouth for fish and chips on the beach (Krispies Chip Shop is every bit all it is professed to be in the reviews). On arriving back from our little excursion, we spent a peaceful night in a very comfortable bed, and then enjoyed a very good shower and breakfast the next morning. I would agree with some reviews which stated the decor was a little dated and needed tidying up, but apart from that we will definitely be returning next time we are travelling to cornwall or even if we return to Exmouth which we found delightful.

Braid found the rich Devon soil perfect for golf and he took great care to leave some of the fine old trees intact. The Oaks, Limes, Redwoods and Horse Chestnuts helped him to lay out a magnificent golf course. It is an 18 hole par 69 (72 ladies) course. Over 6008 yards for men and 5552 yards for ladies. Other facilities include a large practice putting green, a chipping area and a grass driving range for use with your own balls.
