Weekend Stay
We stayed at the Seahorse Hotel for two nights. The rooms were basic but very clean. It\'s an ideal place to stay if you are going to the Barbican Theatre as literally over the road. Breakfast was very nice and the Landlord was pleasant as we were a bit worried when we read some of the reviews about him, but he was friendly enough.

Late York Break
My kind of pub, good cheap beer in a friendly proper local. Because York has lots of pubs and I can\'t drink like I used to I only made it down to the bar on the first night. Which was a pity as the fires were lit and it felt really cosy. Our room was clean, warm and fairly spacious. The bed was really comfy and I slept well. Breakfast was good and wholesome fayre. The Manager was very amiable and if we needed extra milk or teabags for the room it was done straight away There was cereals but The English was good and enough for me. I would definitely stay again as a nice short walk into the city and nicely placed. We paid £60 a night and I can\'t think of a better place in the UK for the price that we have stayed in.

Charming Hotel In Great Location.
We are a family of 4 on a UK road trip. This little gem has been one of the highlights as far as accommodations goes. My 18 and 15 year old sons were as excited as 5 year olds about the small room attached to ours with bunkbeds that they had all to themselves. Clean, quant room with updated bathroom located right across the street from the historic wall that still surrounds part of York. Friendly, helpful management/owners, I would definitely recommend. Perfect Choice For An Event At The Barbican
We were attending a conference at the York Barbican and the Sea Horse Hotel is literally a one minute walk from the Main Entrance.

The room was clean and well furnished with a comfortable bed, the bathroom clean and modern with a good shower. The room temperature was neither too hot nor too cold (in March).

Although breakfast was included we didn\'t have time to eat it on either morning of our stay. However, we did see other guests dining and it looked good.

The owner was friendly and helpful and there was free parking in the yard. It all added up to make a perfect place to stay.

Nice And Cosy Place In Good Location
Pros:

- Rooms nice and clean, cosy

- Bathroom very nice (although sink and toilet were very small)

- Breakfast was very nice

- Affordable

- Decent location

Cons:

- Wouldn\'t let us check out 30 minutes past check out time when we politely asked which would\'ve been nice

- The breakfast server didn\'t give us any indication to how breakfast worked, we weren\'t asked to sit and we didn\'t know whether it was \'help yourself\' or not

- We were served our cooked breakfast after another couple, although we had arrived first which was quite annoying

- Having a television in the room would be a great benefit

Overall, reasonably pleased with the place and would stay again in future.

Great Place To Stay, Super Location And Very Friendly.
Myself and my partner stayed here for the second time in December to take advantage of the Christmas shopping. We had booked a year ago and enjoyed our stay because of the convenient location and value for money so decided to stay two nights this year. Again we were very happy with our stay we had the same room as previously and everything was more than suitable. The breakfast was lovely and the owner was very hospitable. The only issue we found was connecting to the wifi although as we were out for most of the day and evening we didn\'t really mind and did not ask for help as it wasn\'t needed. We look forward to making it an annual stay.

This is our 2nd time staying at the Seahorse and both have been great. The location is perfect for town centre shopping, we were there for the Christmas Market. The staff are friendly & the food is nice too. We have a family room and both have been huge, room 101 even has its own childs bedroom. There is no TV put plenty of sockets for a laptop for films. The only downside for me is its a bit noisy on the roadside but it is an old building with sash windows, earplugs will block that the next time we stay. The price is very reasonable being that it is so close & breakfast is included.

Friendly Host And Perfect Location
We stayed Tues 25th October in order to attend a gig at the Barbican. We booked because of the hotel\'s location and were delighted just how close it was to this venue. The landlord at the hotel was welcoming and friendly. The room was well furnished with an impeccable bathroom. Of course there was no TV due to Sam Smith\'s bizarre regulations, but also missing was a hairdryer, which for me would have been very useful. :-( A good breakfast was provided. We would stay here again and enjoyed a walk along the nearby city walls.

Breakfast was very good,we loved coming back after our night out and enjoyed a couple of drinks with local old boys, very amusing.

If I had to critasize it would be the noise from the traffic at the front of the property and the room would benefit from blackout curtains or blinds, other than that well worth every penny.

The hotel was ideally located for our one-night stay and visit to The Barbican just around the corner, and only a few minutes walk to the city centre.

Rooms were clean and comfortable, though if I were staying more than one night I\'d like a TV in the room.

We didn\'t have any meals other that breakfast but it was a decent English cooked breakfast.

We were very pleased to have free onsite parking and even more pleased to have a refund after some confusion over the ages of the kids (whether to charge as adults/children).

When we got to the hotel it was a tad bit hard to find and no parking so had to leave the car on the main road which wasnt good. But this was sorted out in the morning. Bed was very comfortable.Got to the room and was a decent enough size for people who are just sleeping and showering. Shower was very small and me and my partner both hit ours heads and arms while we used the shower. Very nice hot water constanly. Breakfast was very good, they went to the trouble of getting veggie alternatives for us which was great and we are grateful for. Staff are brillant and very kind. Also this hotel is a 5min walk from city walls and about 15mins to the city centre. Overall a lovely place to stay if you are easily pleased and not fussed about a very large room. We arrived at the hotel before check-in time and was advised that our room was already available. A warm welcome was made and we were shown to our room (room 104: we were told it was \"the best room in the hotel\" as it was to the rear of the building and away from the traffic noise). A good sized room with all that we needed. Everwhere was very clean but the bathroom could do with a little bit of a freshen up but was fully functional. The location is good with only a ten minute walk into the main city area. The room was warm and the bed was very comfortable and we both had a great nights sleep. The breakfast was also very good and seemed to be of a reasonable quality and very filling. For the cost and location (and free parking too!)we would recommend this hotel and will probably return the next time we are staying in York.

Good Value And Friendly Hosts
Stayed here for close proximity to the Barbican, but very handy for town also. It\'s a nice pub. We have been in for a drink before but this is the first time we have stayed. The price included breakfast and parking which I thought was a bargain. We stayed in room 101 which was a good size but there was quite a bit of traffic noise. If we were to stay again I would ask for a room at the back of the hotel

Traditional Seahorse Hotel
We stayed at the seahorse for 1 night 31st oct, hallows eve, lively large room, with large bathroom, big comfortable bed, no tv or hairdryer, not that we were botherd, yes the room needs a lick if paint, but it was clean.we love oldly worldy traditional english places, and the charactor of this old building was in abundance, the pub downstairs was lovely and reasonably priced, nice friendly staff, and helpful, breakfast was nice and served promptly, overall a really nice place to stay in the centre of york and for £49!! Well worth it, thank you seahorse staff for your lovely warm welcome,we will be back.

What A Gem!
What an absolute gem of a hotel! Absolutely fantastic value for what we paid for two people. We couldn\'t have been made to feel more welcome.

However, I can\'t give it 5/5 due to there only being one power socket in the room that takes modern plugs, the rest were the old fashioned round pin sockets! Needs updating to the present day!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect, the breakfast was wonderful (catering for a coeliac diet) and the room and staff, fantastic. The room was BOILING though and we couldn\'t open the window due to the main road outside. Not sure how this could be rectified but it wouldn\'t deter us from staying again! We would just be prepared next time.

Lovely
I went to the sea horse hotel in the school holidays with my toddler. They were fully booked but made the time. I notes they had nine car parking spaces and arriving at 10:30am I had a car parking space to park in.

They helped me to my room as the rooms are upstairs and I struggled slightly with the little one but I did not ask for there help they offered and that was great.

The room was clean I have a family room with a shower and we slept solid. Our room was really warm and comfortable. The room had no tv now I wa not bothered as we was in York most of the time however being I my own with a toddler it would of been nice to try and occupy her to get dressed and seen as we arrived early. Thankfully as parents need to be a had a portable DVD so frozen and Annie was on repeat :) !

Lovely stay though and thank you.

Value For Money
A small hotel sited very conveniently for the city centre. I am a regular visitor to York and some are quite a hike! A good sized bedroom, well presented and maintained and with a pleasing character. Shower room was spotless. Friendly, helpful owners. A brief but pleasant stay. A modest downside, traffic noise required the bedroom window to remain closed at night. In summary the accommodation and good breakfast represented very good value for money.

Sash Window
Great palce to stay, location just 5 minute walk to city centre, room , nice size and decor lovely, staff, personable and chatty, breakfast standard and nice. Only problem was our room was at the front and because the top sash window had dropped we could hear ALL the traffic and it ain\'t a quiet road. I appreciate it will be listed but a bespoke chippie could solve that problem over a weekend and it be in keeping with the original decor. I understand from the manager that we could book a specific room nxt time but for anyone thinking of staying, as you look at the hotel front we were in the top left room and friends of ours with similar issue were in the top third from left, rooms 109 & 107, just saying, but other than that couldnt fault it,

One Adult, 2 Young Children
Chose this hotel as had great reviews on booking.com and was affordable for a family room in mid-August. The room was very spacious, with 4 single beds, and very clean. The beds were very comfortable but the duvets felt like winter thickness and the room was very warm, even with both windows left open. A small fan was provided but it was insufficient for the room and noisy in operation so we didn\'t use it. Also not having a TV was a bit strange these days.

Breakfast was very good with a choice of cereals and fruit juices, a huge supply of toast and full English to follow. Tea or coffee was also provided - I think that they should also offer hot chocolate though as this is a very popular option with continental visitors.

Car parking was sufficient and off-road and the hotel was easy to find. It\'s location was great for the lower end of the historic old-town and there are loads of great pubs within walking distance. Mind-you, the Samuel Smith\'s Extra Stout @ £2.20 per pint was extremely good value, and well kept, in the hotel\'s own bar.

Apart from the heavy duvet in the middle of summer, my only real criticism is that the outside area for smoking was right outside the door to the bar/dining area so the smoke/smell flowed straight into the hotel. As a non-smoker, I found that slightly off-putting though, given the courtyard layout of the back of the building and the need to provide off-street car-parking, I can\'t see what else they can realistically do bar banning all smoking onsite..

Overall, though, a very clean and welcoming hotel, well-located and good value for money.

Lovely hotel in a good location for York town centre. Very friendly and welcoming staff, and a terrific full cooked breakfast. This hotel is particularly good for providing free parking in the stable yard at the rear. If there is one downside it is that there\'s no tv in the room, but if you\'re out and about all the time that won\'t make amy difference. Had a wonderful time at the seahorse :-)

Good Well Positioned Accommodation
With free parking available, a very spacious en-suite family room, and 10 minute walk from the main attractions, this makes the B&B a very good option. The beds were very comfortable, the decor a little dated (and no TV) but functional (tea/coffee, soaps/shampoos). Great beers on tap and full English breakfast for the whole family. Being above a pub I was surprised to not hear any noise from the bar; there was a little road noise but even as a light sleeper I still slept well.

Family Party To Attend In York
Had a very pleasant stay at the sea horse in york, we had 4 double rooms and beds very comfortable, price very reasonable and breakfast service is good , great location for walking I to the city centre , parking is also available on a first come first served basis which is a huge bonus in york as parking is very expensive. Lots of bars and restaurants along the

same road as the hotel too which is a good option. the only negative would be that the shower cubicles are tiny so anyone on the larger side would struggle to use it in room 107 , 108, and 104 but 109 had a bath with shower over it so check when booking what room you have , I would stay again when next in York Thankyou

Happy Times
We have just had a great weekend starting in Leeds then heading on to York. Me my partner and six year old child stayed in a family room which was lovely we shopped all day and headed bk to the hotel for a nice evening we wanted to sit in the front bar as it was the warmest room but sadly no under 18 in there ? Just because you have a bandit in there doesn\'t mean you can\'t have kids in as the kids are accompanied by responsible adults.

So we sat in the snug which is nice may be a nice tv or a little bit background music would of made it a little more comfortable luckily we made friends with s nice couple and started a conversation which made it more relaxed and sociable good drinks and good price.

Beds are very comftable and had a fab night sleep but partner didn\'t as no double glazed windows and we were on the Main Street. ( tv in room for kids would be great.

Overall I would give this hotel 9 out of 10 we had a fab time and you can\'t complain too much when you have an open fire to chill out next too

Great Stay With Great People
We were looking for somewhere to stay for one night close to York but that could accommodate a family at a decent price. The Seahorse Hotel ticked all the boxes for us and we were not disappointed. The staff were great and made us and the children feel really welcome. The room was a great size and the kids loved it.

WiFi signal around the premises is excellent so no issues using your technology. Not sure why people keep moaning about there being no TV\'S in the rooms. As far we were concerned, it was a welcome change. As they have decent WiFi, you can stream all your programs anyway if you really need your TV fix. Please remember this is a Samuel Smiths public house so it is them that govern this rule, not the landlord.

The beds are great and the breakfast is excellent. As this hotel is very close to all amenities, you would struggle to find another one like it for the same kind of money so close to the centre of York.

Many thanks for a wonderful stay.

Best Value For Money In York
We looked to book a last minute weekend away for Valentines day. All City Centre hotels in York were either full or charging £300+... I stumbled across this B&B/Hotel at the last minute and for £49 we were cautious but went for it. I\'m glad we did. For anyone who travels a lot and uses National Chains, this accommodation provides a clean, comfortable, historical, rustic, good old-fashioned British hotel in a great location (only 10 minute walk into the City of York). On arrival check in was allowed an hour earlier than suggested on the booking, car parking was free and was 20 seconds from the back door (expect to pay upwards of £20 in York for hotels with no parking), there is a Sam Smith pub downstairs with friendly and efficient staff, the room is clean, basic but has everything you need. Breakfast was good and service was quick and hassle free. To summarise, if you\'re looking for accommodation with easy access to a wonderful City with it\'s attractions, bars and restaurants and want something a little bit traditional, this place is for you. If you wander around looking for problems and things to moan about, go for the Holiday Inn. Enjoy!

Warm And Welcoming
Great Sam smiths inn just a step outside the city walls. We had a warm welcome from the landlord. Our room was also warm, welcoming and cozy. The bed was comfy with lovely crisp white bedlinen. A £20 cash deposit is required for the outside door electronic key. Breakfast was great, self service orange juice and cereals, full cooked breakfast and toast, tea and coffee. What more could you want! Cracking place to stay at a great affordable price!

Sea Horse York
We just stayed at the sea horse hotel in york we had a warm welcome when we got there and shown to our room which was very vlean and the bed was very comfortable we stayed in room102 which looks on to a very busy main road had to have the winow open all night because the room got very hot I had the window open and the little fan on and it was still too hot for me if you do stay there close the bathroom door as we found it was the radiator in there.

We had a full English breakfast in the morning which was really good. We paid £49.00 for b & b which is great value and we will be staying there again.

Nice Place
Great location, nice hotel, polite staff, convenient parking, good breakfast. Only complaint is that the room was too warm! We turned off the radiator, but it was still properly roasting the whole night!

Great Place
local pub with few rooms above! Rooms are clean, bed was comfortable and we had lots of tea and coffee available. Shower was small but clean! Landlords were friendly and morning breakfast was consistent and freshly cooked! Location within minutes to Central York! Looking at the price I will recommend it and would book it again

One Night Stay
Ideal for an overnight shopping trip to York. Near to the centre and parking is a bonus.

Room 104 - room is a good size but a rattling window was annoying through the night and could have been sorted by a small but on to the window fastening. Would stay again as it was just what we needed for our stay.
