Hotel Description

Built in the Georgian period, our old girl has some history. In days gone past, she's been a lavender farm and a small hotel for railway passengers travelling to Kent. Now, she's an award-winning riverside inn with six beautiful en-suite rooms on the 2nd floor and a large, cosy pub on the ground floor. She's also the only pub in Kent that offers riverboat trips. Three of our rooms face onto the Great River Stour, two have a riverside balcony and the remaining three present a view of the Stodmarsh Nature Reserve, one of the most protected wetlands in the UK and the world. We offer a personal service that is homely, honest and friendly. If you're searching for a uber-luxury stay, we're not it. If however you're looking for a country escape, a home away from home, then you've found us. We pride ourselves in being the place you can make your own, walk around in socks, sit by the fire with your morning paper and a coffee. Help us feed the chickens, ducks and pigs in the morning if you'd like or go hunting for eggs with the kids; we have some great family rooms in our hotel. You can also head across the road for a walk in the reserve, go for a relaxing boat trip (open from March to September), explore Canterbury's historical buildings or spend an afternoon canoeing or kayaking along the River Stour. If you fancy a spot of shopping, there's also Ashford designer outlet!

Good Stop Over
This is an excellent hotel for visiting Canterbury, only 15 minutes drive to park and ride. Good service for breakfast, and dinner.

Food we had was excellent. Room adequate, setting lovely.

Nice Room And Pub
The room was a good size and the bathroom was large, albeit without a bath. The curtains were paper thin and quite shabby. The beds felt old, with pinging springs, squishy mattresses and flat pillows. My daughter\'s single bed was on casters and rolled all over the floor when she moved. Eventually she fell out of bed. A nice location, with a nice pub downstairs. Didn\'t hang around for breakfast, so can\'t comment on the food. Helpful staff.

Noisy
Kept awake by the air con unit below Juniper room window

Bathroom ventilators are automatic and switch off 30 mins after the bathroom light is switched off

Old building=thin walls and floors. A very noisy family awoke early and prepares to leave with no consideration for the noise they were making at such an early hour

Such a lovely spot. Spoiled by above and hence the price of 160GBP for a room for the night rather hatdto swalloe

Response from Hotel
Dear Mr. Green,

So sorry to read your stay here hasn\'t been as exceptional as we strive it to be.

We\'ll look at a way to either shut down aircon at night or soundproof it in any way. Thank you so much for your feedback!

As for your overnight neighbours, we\'re sorry to hear about that ;-(

We do hope you have enjoyed your stay in our pub though, and we\'d be delighted to see you pop in again.

Cheers!

The Grove Ferry Team.

Echt Engels

Relaxing Evenings....
First impressions of the grove ferry didn\'t disappoint, fantastic setting, gorgeous building, smell of good food cooking. Rooms were large, quirkily decorated and very clean. Our only disappointment was that could not have a cooked breakfast early enough before we headed off for work - but - the staff were brilliant in organising cereal and sore made sandwich for us all for the morning, really appreciated this. Evening food was exceptional too. Every member if staff we met from manager to cleaner was polite, chatty, curious, well done grove ferry inn! A bit expensive to stay purely for work but would love to come back to have a more relaxing stay in your superb pub.

Requested Review
A very pleasant location and staff friendly.

Room nice with a balcony overlooking the river. Shower very small with no shelf to place soap etcetera which was annoying - but not the end of the world.

Breakfast a bit farcical as no eggs available for a full English breakfast although cress piled up on top, no offer of toast and tomato not fully grilled.

Would stay there again but could have been an even nicer experience without these niggles.

More Shabby Than Sheek
We had the room Gooseberry. There was green mould between the shower doors. Every time you turned over in bed the springs went bang.I had fish and chips in a gluten free batter. They should have the option of ordinary batter. the gluten free was like concrete. Sorry will not be returning. Service at breakfast was non existant. Had to go and ask for a second cup of coffee.

We stayed here for one night and were pleased with our choice. The Grove Ferry is tucked away in a beautiful spot yet with easy reach of towns such as Whitstable and Herne Bay. The food was of a good standard. The room was an ideal size and over-looked the nearby river. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely stay at the Grove Ferry, using it as our base for attending a local wedding. The welcome was warm and genuine and we enjoyed a quick snack (the soup of the day and warm crusty bread) before changing and heading off to the service. Our room was clean, cosy and comfortable and we slept soundly after our return from the reception. Breakfast was excellent - the eggs cooked just right and really tasty local sausages.

We plan to return in the summer to get to know the area better and do some walking.

We can do breakfast hampers for days that you need to get out and about early on, I\'m not sure if it was mentioned to you while you stayed with us, apologies if it wasn\'t.

Rating Of Stay
Lovely surroundings, very relaxing, very comfortable bed, if there was any criticism at all it would be a lack of a wardrobe and a bath in the bathroom.but I realise that it was an en.suite, and most do not have a bath. A smaller t.v hung on the wall would also make space for a dressing table, which most women appreciate. The staff were outstanding, and nothing was too much trouble. They create a warm and friendly atmosphere, we will definitely be back again very soon. And we are looking forward to it already.

Home From Home
This was our second stay at The Grove Ferry and again as was true of the first time round it didn\'t disappoint.

We stayed in the Elderflower room which looked out on to the river and had a balcony which would be spot on during the summer months.

Again we ate in the pub that evening and the food was nothing short of superb all locally sourced then knocked up in the kitchen to produce a culinary delight same goes for the breakfast the next morning.

The staff there have found the perfect mix of creating a relaxed atmosphere but at the same time making sure their there for their customers every need. We plan to stay over during the summer to explore the lovely countryside that surrounds this rare gem that is The Grove Ferry Pantry Pub.

We both have no problem recommending it and have done so already on many occasion.

Great Stay
Hi guys

just a short note to say how much we enjoyed our stay. The room was excellent with a wonderful view of the river. The complementary popcorn and the tea, coffee selection was a really nice touch. The breakfast was a delicious start to our day, but best of all was the warm welcome and friendliness that you all gave us. Wish we had stayed longer. Many thanks

john and Karen
