Wet Weekend
My wife and I had a 3 night break at the Kings Arms. Everything but the weather was perfect! Breakfast meant a commitment to extra walking, and the dinner menu was really difficult to choose from. The food was excellent. Not the fault of the hotel, Elizabethan era rooms in inns weren\'t too spacious! To offset this, the bar area is very welcoming with a good selection of beers and spirits, and all of the team were very positive, cheerful and helpful.

We\'ve been to the lakes many times but never stayed in Hawkshead. After researching the village we chose the Kings Arms for a two night stay with our dog. After getting there and checking out the competition we were really pleased with our choice. Great little bustling traditional pub in the heart of the village , we ate there both nights and weren\'t disappointed. Staff were really friendly and welcoming, would highly recommend and definitely plan to return, possibly our new favourite place.

This is a most delightful inn with all the amenities you need set amidst a delightful charming village.

The staff were the most pleasant and accommodating that I have come across in any hotel. Nothing was too much trouble.

If you like good food then this is the place to come whether it be for breakfast , lunch, or dinner. The inn itself is worth spending a night in to just mingle with the locals and fellow tourist, there is so much character there, and excellent real ales.

Great Weekend
Hawkshead is a perfect destination as a lakes weekend or longer stay, and the Kings Arms a good choice to stay at.

Rooms are small but adequate; good bar choice; and good food. The only criticism would be it took an hour each night for the meal to be served but as we were not going anywhere this was not a real issues. What made the visit special was the quality of friendly service from the owner through to all the team - the standard was willingly modified to to each visitor. Dog friendly a plus for us.

They catered very well for my wife\'s need for gluten free food. We ate in the bar, where our dog was very welcome, as they do not allow dogs in the restaurant. Flag Cottage
We were booked to stay at the pub & were very kindly offered the cottage instead when they saw us arrive with our 2 Labradors. The cottage was lovely & in a perfect spot to be in the village or out walking the dogs across the fields. The pub is great, one of the most dog friendly places ever and the staff are all really friendly, the only problem we had was it was so busy we didn't manage to eat there all weekend, but did have a drinks there and enjoyed the live music on Saturday night. Already planning when we can get up there again.

April 2014 Short Stay
Nice room, good food, so good we ate at the inn both nights. Wifi unreliable, but staff did try to fix the issues.

Only real down side was noisy drinkers/ smokers in the evening (room overlooked front of inn) and early deliveries to local shops pushing goods over cobbles to wake you

Very Enjoyable Stay
Had a really good two night stay here staff very friendly and couldn't fault the service .Room although small had plenty of storage and a view over the square.Bathroom again on the small side but plenty of hot water. Breakfast lovely especially the sausage very good quality . Definitely stay here again a bonus being able to bring the dog .Only downside is noisy delivery in the morning .

Two Nights
We stayed Saturday Sunday in this traditional pub, which reminded me of our honeymoon 'hotel' nearly 50 years ago:comfortable room, good food, friendly staff, good location. Didn't take full advantage since our daughter and family were staying in a log cabin nearby, but we enjoyed our short stay which was very reasonably priced.

Hawkshead Kings Arms
This is an honest lakes pub,if you want posh, state of the art decor, don't come. If you like an old traditional pub with good real ale, like dogs in the bar, and a lovely coal fire on a wet day, this is for you, the breakfast is super, well cooked and served by lovely local staff who live in the village who will do anything they reasonably can to make you feel welcome. This is a locals bar,and they are friendly and generous to strangers and willing to show you the best walks and sites to see, hot water clean warm rooms and beds, what else do you want.go there, see for yourself, we loved it, thank you

Stayed With My 81 Year Old Mum
My Mum and I had a suite of two rooms, one twin bed and the other a double. This worked really well as we both had more space. The beds are very comfortable and the staff exceptional! We were made to feel very welcome and my Mum was delighted by the attention to her 'dietry needs'. This was my second visit to the Kings Arms and I'm sure I will return again. The restaurant is very popular on a Saturday night so I would advise anyone staying to make sure they book their table! Special thanks to Ben and Maeve (hope that's how you spell it) who are a delight.

Kings Arms Hotel, Hawkshead
I have stayed at the Kings Arms four or five times and absolutely love it. Excellent food (including good vegetarian options) and a wonderful, comfortable room. The staff are friendly and helpful; nothing is too much trouble. I need to work when I am travelling and the internet connection in the room is good and reliable (and free). I also travel with my dog. The Kings Arms is a great place for dogs; genuinely welcoming.

Overall, my favourite pub/hotel, not just in the Lake District but anywher in the country.

My highest possible recommendation.

Great Hotel And Pub
We've stayed at the Kings Arms several times before, and will keep returning. Hawkshead is a beautiful village and the Kings is a great base for a few days based there. Breakfasts are great, beer in the pub is fastastic, staff are friendly. Only small criticism is small rooms, but we're always out moutain climbing or in the bar so that's not a problem for us!

Return To Kings Arms
We were pleased that we could still take our hound for our return visit to the Kings Arms. It is 31 years since our last visit. We had a different room but the service, food and local beers were just as good. Not ultra modern no desk in the room no armchair just an honest comfy bed and bathroom and great for dog lovers.

Would Recommend!
My partner and I were made to feel very welcome on arrival. The staff were friendly and efficient-the landlord took the time to ensure that everything was ok during our stay and seemed genuinely interested in what we had planned, offering suggestions for things to do/places to see, without appearing intrusive. Our room was comfortable, if not a tad on the small side (!), but the excellent real ales and quality food on offer more than made up for that.

We would definitely return if visiting the area again. Thanks!

The Kings Arms is my favourite pub/bed and breakfast in tha Lake District. I have stayed several times, sometimes on my own and sometimes with my wife. The welcome is always warm; the rooms are very comfortable; and the food is excellent. We have visited with our German Shepherd, Ellie; it is lovely to be able to bring a dog and to be able to feel so relaxed. Hawkshead is a wonderful base from which to explore the southern Lake District, and the Kings Arms is the best possible place to stay.

Beautiful Pub In A Beautiful Village !
We've just returned from two smashing days at the King's Arms in Hawkshead. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is great. Our dog Harley loved his stay as well. There are lots of good walks from the village as well as being well placed to drive to numerous beautiful places in the Lake District. Tarn Hows is a must and this time we drove over the snow covered Hardknott and Wrynose passes. We will definately return again next year or even sooner.

Stott Park Bobbin Mill - Newby Bridge - Museum

Stott Park Bobbin Mill - Newby Bridge - Museum

Distance 6.4 miles (10.23 km)
A working mill built in 1835, Stott Park created the wooden bobbins vital to the spinning and weaving industries of Lancashire. Typical of mills across Cumbria, today you can see industry from a bygone age and watch as bobbins are made using the mill's original machinery. Although Stott Park worked continuously until 1971, it remains almost identical to its Victorian appearance of 100 years ago. With its Victorian machinery originally powered by a waterwheel and steam engine, Stott Park used birch, ash and sycamore to make wooden tool handles as well as bobbins. The mass of belts which fill the building still drive the cutting, boring and finishing machines than turn long thin poles into bobbins. You can watch a bobbin being made, and take it home as a souvenir.
