A Place Like Home!
Amazing! Staff were pleasant without being 'invading' and the hotel was modern without being pretentious. My boyfriend and I stayed only one night but it felt like we had always belonged there. It really was as if the room was a small flat that we owned! A home away from home, so comfortable, welcoming, warm, and the! I have never slept on a more comfortable bed, I know I now face a challenge to find a hotel that will beat this one. Breakfast was delivered to the room, (nice touch) all the amenities you'd expect were included, tea coffee toiletries etc.. AND there were four pillows on the bed! (I like to sleep on two pillows, and most hotels you have to ask for an extra one) If 'Rocksalt Rooms' is the only reason for you to visit Folkstone, then it's an extremely good one! Stay here, and you'll see just what I mean!

Great Stay
The rooms are seperate from the restaurant, just over the road but are dery handy. They are decorated in a lovely style, modern and minimal but with everything designed for a good nights sleep. Beautiful big comfy bed with good quality linen and towels. We used it to stay overnight before catching the eurotunnel and would definitely do it again. It made a great start to our weekend away. Food was first class at the restaurant, a little pricey but a lovely treat.

My Favourite Place
I really love staying and eating here. We did the Seaside Sunday (again) and it's great value. My only complaint is this time they seemed a bit disorganised and our room wasn't ready, despite we giving an eta. We were given a complementary drink with our meal - but..... Anyway the food as usual was lovely and we hope to be back soon.

An unexpected mid week opportunity to revisit Rocksalt for dinner led to a need for overnight accommodation. the Rocksalt rooms in a converted fishing shed were beautifully appointed and comfortable (and very reasonably priced. Classy Comfort!
We were actually a family with teenage children staying in two rooms before a family wedding. The rooms are not large but are really comfortable, contemporary and stylish with some fantastic views over the harbour. The beds are comfortable with lovely bedding and soft pillows. The wet rooms are small, but again stylish with a nice selection of shower products. We had a large family dinner in the restaurant, which stands out in Folkestone for being a super smart venue with great views, good food and smooth service. All in all a very positive experience - highly recommended.

Loved the restaurant and location. Staff very friendly and attentive. We came on a Sunday special, would have been nice to have had a bit more choice on the Sunday lunch menu that we had to choose from. Our room was spotlessly clean and comfortable and breakfast brought over to the room was great, just a thought and hopefully a constructive comment, would be good to have some lap trays in the room for eating breakfast off of.

Great Staff!
From time to time I travel to Folkestone on business, but this was the first time I stayed at Rocksalt. From the first moment I arrived, the staff were great, really warm, friendly and helpful, I could tell that they genuinely cared about their business and their customers. I had dinner in the restaurant which was great (I was travelling alone which is never a great way to dine, but they were sensitive to this and didnt place me alone in full view of all the other diners but gave me a discreet table which was appreciated) I had a great steak and lovely bottle of Red. I was a little taken aback when the rooms for the hotel were across the street (only a 30 second walk), but the rooms were lovely, clean, tidy, with very nice touches to make you feel welcome (bowl of Strawberries, complementary water etc) it has the feel and care that feels at home in a boutique hotel anywhere I have been. Car parking was lacking, but there was a public car park two minutes away which was £5 for 24 hours so this was no big deal. In the morning they cooked up a first class breakfast and again I was greeted by warm friendly people how made me feel as if I was welcome and appreciated. I was 15 minutes late for the end of breakfast (I over slept as the bed was super-comfy). I walked across to the restaurant with a little trepidation as I have been to a few places where 30 seconds late for service and they are not interested, but this was absolutely no problem whatsoever.

In summary, a great place, with great food, great rooms but without a doubt the best thing about the whole experience was the warmth and kindness of the staff. I look forward to returning.

Rocksalt Rooms
We arrived for a Sunday Special and received a lovely welcome. We were shown to our seaview room, we stayed in Valentine. Which although smallish was clean, and really well thought through with a great view of the harbour. We then went to the restaurant for a super relaxed lunch - we chose the beef which was cooked to perfection and delivered with a smile. Even though the restaurant was full and busy we received very good service. We then went for a long walk and finished the evening back in the bar where we had 2 for 1 cocktails. We so enjoyed the experience at Rocksalt and would highly recommend it for it's food, service, setting and value for money.

Would Recommend Highly
I booked Rocksalt for my husbands birthday and also one of the rooms available. The room was beautifully dsigned with views over the rooftops of the harbour buildings and the harbour itself. Incredibly comfy bed and well designed bathroom. But the highlight was the fabulous meal starting with drinks in the bar out on the terrace. The meal itself was very good - loved the little taster/starter option and the deep fried courgette and flower with goats cheese (newly on the menu we were told). Wine was local and good and service spot on - with attention to that the fact we were celebrating. The next morning we had the choice of breakfast hamper left by our door (lovely if you want to realy get away from it all) or cooked brekky in the restaurant which we went for (and can again recommend). Great night away and best present for my hubby in years!

Funky Pad!
We stayed in 'Fergie' the sea view room. The bare brickwork, funky decor and views over the harbour were just what we were looking for and waking up in the high bed with doors open overlooking the sea was amazing. The food was amazing we shared the steak dish, puddings we couldn't choose so we had all three lol. Our room (kitty) was great. The decor was nice but so were the details. Bathroom had lovely toiletries, the room as cleverly designed to maximise space and the skylight to let the bathroom steam escape was great. The rock was so tasty and breakfast being delivered to the door was superb! Few things to improve. The single room over the Smokehouse did smell of F&C and so did our stuff when I unpacked the suitcase at home. Also, the safety light was very bright green in one of the bedrooms too. Our daughter was a little disappointed to not have her own plate and juice for breakfast (but I think the excitement of opening the basket made up for that!). She loved the kid friendly books by her bedside. We've told our friends about this place and we'd stay again.

Shame About The Weather
We're not that young a couple as we've just hit our 40's! After a few initial issues with booking which was sorted via Twitter with Mark Sargeant & then over the phone with Sara, we finally arrived. Shown to our room by Jordan (?) who was friendly & helpful. What a lovely room (Valentine), although looking at Trip Advisor pictures & comments was expecting a Nespresso machine (would've been nice but not a worry). Huge bed (surprisingly comfortable). Wandered over for dinner a bit later & had drinks in the bar upstairs. A busy crowd but service was helpful in helping to decide on cocktails. Dinner was fantastic, had the most delicious curry that I've ever eaten (Monkfish) & my boyfriend had the lamb shank which he'd chosen from Simon Oakleys tweeted pictures. We went back to our cosy room, which was a struggle as it had turned so wet & windy, combined with my high heels. Had asked after dinner as to when breakfast would be delivered & was told 8.30 - 9.00am & so strange to be woken up just before 8am with a knock to say it'd arrived - a bit early to eat for my liking. It was delicious but not sure about having to share the yoghurt & granola in one pot!

Just a couple of points that you might like to consider:

1. to keep in with the room decor why not have locally made rustic mugs? (& support local artists)

2. some homemade biscuits in the room would've been a nice added touch.

3. some locally produced toiletries would've added to the local vibe of the restaurant ethos. (& support a local company)

4.Folkestone itself doesn't appear to have much going for it (sorry). Would love to visit again & bring the in-laws but apart from Rocksalt, Smokehouse (delicious too) & the rooms there isn't much going for it. Maybe the empire can be expanded to include any of the following: coffee shop, deli, local produce store, demo area.

Thanks again for looking after us,

Kirsty Richardson

Stunning Bolthole In Beautiful Folkestone
We had a lovely time at Rocksalt Rooms, arriving on a Saturday afternoon for our reservation at Rocksalt later on that evening. On arrival a kind man from the restaurant showed us to our room and where we could find everything. He also showed us a good route to take a nice walk to work up an appetite. After a lovely stroll and chilly dip in the sea we went back to our room with a bottle of wine and relaxed watching a film on the very large and comfortable bed. The room also had lovely views over the harbour and great to watch the tide receding and the blue lights lining the walls. The bathroom was perfect, stocked with all you need for a weekend away and the coffee/tea and water selection was good. After a fantastic dinner at Rocksalt we slept like babies in the lovely comfortable beds. I would recommend Rocksalt Rooms to all of my friends as a great getaway from London that takes less than an hour to get to.

Great Stay
When arriving we could not find the hotel and wasn’t aware there was no reception so we went into the restaurant who and was assisted by a very helpful gentleman. We stayed in Fergy (I believe) and the room was comfortable and well presented. The only problems we had was having only curtains and no nets, so getting ready in the morning we had to have the curtains pulled and lights on (which was still quite dim) otherwise passers could look up and in. Apart from this we had a great stay and would recommend others.

Good Value
We stayed in the La La room at Rocksalt Rooms on New Years Eve as we had booked a table in the restaurant for dinner. The price was £75.00 for the night, which included breakfast. The room was stylish, but very small, but having said that we only needed the room for the night and therefore didn't need a wardrobe (there wasn't one). There wasn't anywhere to store your clothes if you were staying for a longer period of time. There were 4 clothes hooks on the door, which led to the boiler room. The room was very clean and so was the bathroom although the toilet had some dark stains inside, which didn't look very attractive! I would recommend some bleach and de-scaler. Shower gel and lovely fluffy white towels were provided. The bed linen was clean and crisp and there were coffee making facilities (a cafetiere) and instructions on how to use the Nespresso (but no Nespresso) provided. The price included a continental breakfast, which was really nice and delivered to our room in a small whicker hamper on the morning we were due to leave. There was fresh orange, fresh milk in a flask (coffee was already in the room)two different types of warm croissants and some jam. We ate our breakfast in bed. I must say it was very nice. There was a small flat screen tv in the room and a hairdryer provided. The room is very closely overlooked by the properties opposite and no type of net screening so we had to keep the Roman blinds down to maintain privacy as the people opposite could easily see into our room if they had been looking out. I would definitely stay again because of the cleanliness and the standard of the decor, but would recommend that if you were staying for more than one night you stay in a larger room, which may have some storage space. Otherwise I suppose a bed with drawers underneath would be a good idea. I would like to add that our New Year's Eve meal was delicious. Overall a lovely New Years Eve thanks to Rocksalt!!

The food was good and the fish beautifully cooked (although choice of course limited to a set menu) and the wine list was small but interesting. Cocktails were fun. Last but not least we arrived on a very cold blustery day to a charming and cosy room (dvd player would have been nice though).

Rocksalt Review
Stayed here overnight on a Sunday and only a single word need describe our stay, PERFECT.

The accommodation was comfortable with a marvellous view overlooking the harbour, the morning greeting us with a scene whereby we could see the fishing boats coming in with the daily catch as the sun was rising.

The food in the restaurant was first rate and fairly priced, given that we are used to London prices. The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable and pitched the service just right without going over the top or leaving us alone and unattended. The wine was decently priced.

We have been fortunate to have eaten at a number of celebrity chef restaurants up and down the country and we both agreed that this was at the top of, or very near the top, of our list, take a bow!

The cocktails and the bar were a nice after dinner treat as well.

We will return very soon.

Good, But A Little Noisy
Very lovely, small, simple rooms with very clean bathrooms and a good, simple hamper breakfast. Very few complaints except 1) missing coffee machines in one room and 2) a door closing elsewhere in the building creates a fairly loud noise. We loved it, but not ideal for light sleepers.

My View
I had a table booked for Friday 2nd Nov, my friends and I arrived late, we were stuck in traffic for four hours, Anna kindly managed to find another table for us at, once arrived a friendly young guy took us to our room, he even advised me where I could park for free, the cocktail upstairs was amazing, the restaurant was fab, food brilliant and the over night room was modern, clean and very inviting, two bad points, no coffee machine in the room, so breakfast arrived we had milk, coffee and cups but no machine, also the room I booked was for three ( Kittens room ) and only breakast for two arrived, i would rate the room, service and food a 5, however due to the two small comments Fridays visit became a 3

Cloud 9/down To Earth
We had a wonderful meal and boutique room during our visit on Tuesday.Extremely happy at the way Rocksalt was run.Thought process- we will be back!

However situation marred next morning by parking ticket, having parked exactly (BETWEEN YELLOW LINES)where we were told when shown to our room.We were NOT told we had to move the car (in the morning) otherwise we would have obvoiusly done so. On trying to gain entrance no one would let us in but we were rung back later that evening. Unfortunately we still have to pay the £35 fine which rather took the edge off our 'winter warmer'break.

Generally Fantastic
The negative I want to report is so petty that it"s almost not worth saying but here it is.

No milk for coffee machine , had meant to ask for it, but by evening , it didn't seem important. The breakfast had just enough milk for 2 coffees ( but online just) . Breakfast was slightly disappointing ,The 4 sweet pastries, orange juice were ok. But we had one yoghurt (very nice) for 2.

Finally, check out was 10am, check in was 3pm! An hour later would have been nice. How long does it take to clean 4 rooms?

However, the room was lovely. The staff were fantastic and very friendly . Every member of staff were lovely. The meal in the restaurant was very very good. Couldn't fault anything. I recommend visiting Rocksalt restaurant and the rooms.

Absolutely loved our room at Rocksalt, and was pleased to find the room actually had two seperate bedrooms, to sleep the three adults. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great location. My only gripe was that when the delicious breakfast hamper arrived it was only for 2 people and not 3. I notice on other review sites that this has been an issue before and would have thought this issue would have already been addressed. Otherwise a lovely weekend and would recommend to others and definitely stay again myself.

Perfect Sunday Lunch And Relaxed Stay Over
I had visited the restaurant a few weeks ago with some friends who are regular visitors, it was so nice we decided to book for the Seaside Sunday offer, the meal was amazing on Sunday and the service was brilliant, we spent a couple of hours in the bar relaxing after and the room we had was lush, although the weather was ghastly this didn't spoil our visit at all, in fact we snuggled up in our room with some chips from the smokehouse watching the lightning across the sea with a nice bottle of red.Just to say a massive thank you and you have some real great team members who really know there stuff. The waitress was fab recommended some lovely choices( rabbit pie) and the young blond lad who made our cocktails really knew his stuff. Perfect thank you

Great Birthday Treat
We booked Rocksalt to celebrate our friend's birthday and very much looked forward to our visit. On arrival, we were shown to our room by a friendly member of staff who took time to settle us into our lovely room and answer any questions. The room itself was small, but very pretty and had a real attention to detail and was very comfortable. When our friends arrived, we went back to the restaurant and sat upstairs in the bar area over looking the harbor...wonderful and had some wine. Here is possibly our only gripe...the service in the afternoon was not great and we often had to go find a member of staff but that is only a small grumble.

Dinner was fantastic, excellent quality, gorgeous setting and also very well priced. There was no rush and we were free to take our time over dinner and the service here was much better.

The next morning, a breakfast hamper was delivered to our room and this final touch finished our visit off beautifully. We would certainly go back.

Simply The Best
My partner took me to Rock Salt for my birthday, what a treat!! When we got

there we went in to the smokehouse fish and chip shop (part of rock salt)and asked were we could collect our keys, straightaway we where shown across the road to check in first at Rock Salt, the helpful and really pleasant girl that took us across gave us a taste of the way we would be treated .

We stayed in their beautiful room’s very boutique style wonderful view of the harbour really stylish. Every think you could need was there again couldn’t be more helpful.

We went across to Rock Salt in the evening enjoyed cocktails in there bar on the upper deck. The boys behind the bar were entertaining good at there job and made that a good start to the evening.

We were given a wonderful seat in the restaurant over looking the harbour. Although all the seating had an excellent view.

The food was beautifully presented and cooked we went from appetizers of cockles and radish with anchovy sauce to starters of Harissa Crab and kippers with poached egg to our delightful mains of Roasted turbot and Blackened sea Bream , accompanied by a well recommended Bottle of Chablis.

We even had to make space for the dessert a really light Mille Feuille.

Perfect in everyway and made memorable by the great staff.

The stay was topped off in the Morning by a delivery to our rooms of a really tasty Breakfast Hamper. We will be back

Sunny Weekend
My wife and I stayed on a Sunday night and had lunch in the restaurant too. We were taken to our room at about 12pm by a lovely lady who really made us feel special. Unfortunately the room wasn't ready so we left our bags and had our lunch. Our lunch was nice, good wine, but a bit disappointing as the fish was slightly overlooked. We had a drink in the bar which was glorious sitting out in the sun! Our room was nice, I had seen the reviews so expected it to be small but was pleasantly surprised, the bed was lovely and comfy with nice fresh linen. There was no milk for our coffee though so we took a walk to a petrol station and bought some. I didn't sleep much that night as it was unbelievably hot but noisy with th windows open. In the morning we waited for our breakfast but it didn't come so we left just after 9am. We went to take the keys back to the restaurant and they said they were just about to bring our breakfast over but we were up and ready to go by then so we left it. Overall we had a really relaxing and enjoyable night away, just a few niggles made it less than perfect.

First Timers
Interesting concept of a boutique hotel and restaurant aiming at local food products. Excellent value. Superbe wine list. Outstanding service by Sarah, and, her team. Not 'over the top' thank goodness - like in the USA hmmmm....... but focused (in a very good Euro continent way)

One suggestion would be to offer breakfast at an earlier hour, esp for us on business. 08h30 a little too late to start to bring it to the rooms. But is did look delicious if we could of had it as we were leaving to get to our client's site.

Probably a something in the wet room to place toiletry bags upon as this was lacking. Milk for Nepresso machine capsule system, in the rooms too.

Otherwise this place is going to go somewhere and is part of a new dynamic of Folkestone and it will create synergies.

Now we know the area will 'arrive' and reach the pinnacle when there will be a proper live jazz club!!!!!!

All the best.

Rocksalt And Room.
Restaurant terrific.Comfortable banquette, well presented fresh food at dinner and welcoming staff ... especially for finding us toothpaste! Great modern lighting and ambiance and good cocktails in the bar. The Loo is for midgets! The room had a great view of the harbour from the bed which was well made up.We liked the brick, wood and glass style but there was nowhere to put our stuff. No coat hangars. No chair. No furniture. Same in shower room. My washbag was on the loo seat! How about corner shelves? Stools? And it would be good to have a small table to eat breakfast since jammy croissant flakes all over the bed and balancing the wicker box messes up! Not a practical set up. The tea maching produces only luke warm drinks and the shower ... how is it operated shivvered my lady who didnt want wet hair after the false fire alarm sent us to the outside alleyway. We knew it was the Smoke Room but hopefully not literally! Memorable morning that .. bare feet in the alleyway but good for meeting other guests in their knickers.

Mostly it was fun. Thank you Rocksalt.

Rocksalt Rooms
Very comfortable, warm room. Good location. Suggest some improvements: somewhere to hang your clothes, a bath mat in the wet room as it gets flooded after a shower and you need something to soak the water up if you want to continue using the batchroom after a shower. A kettle would be better than the coffee machine as it didn't make very nice tea.

Great Place
Had a fabulous stay in Folkestone and was lucky to have sun in November!

Rock Salt dining rooms were fantastic, so much we had lunch two days running. Fish was FAB.

Stayed in the rooms, nice and central, finish was superb. Only issue was smell from chippy downstairs, overcome as we stole the plug in from the public hallway and used in main room. NO SPACE whatsoever either to hang anything up or to place a cup on. Great Nespresso machine in room but no milk or hot water for tea :o(

Saying that, all in all a great weekend but rooms just need tweaking as couldn't really stay for more than one night.

Staff and service was FANTASTIC - THANKS!

Great Room
Stayed one night as booked into Rocksalt for an evening meal. Room was really lovely, very comfy and trendy. Great bed and luxurious linen. Fab bathroom although could really do with a shelf in there for us ladies to put our lotions and potions on! That is the only negative thing I can say, will defiantely stay again. Rocksalt was fabulous too

Just What We Wanted!
A birthday dinner at the fabulous Rocksalt and then a night in the wonderful Fergy room! It was small in size, but the ambiance delivered by the antique bed, sumptuous mattress with crisp bedding, and relaxing view over the harbour made up for it. This is however, not practically, a room to linger in for days as there were no coat hangers or room to store any items, and for non coffee drinkers ( which we are not!) there was no possibility of a hot drink, but the Nespresso machine was great! Just one thing that is beyond the control of Rocksalt and that would be the unfortunate early 7am arrival of fishermen preparing their shop opposite ( we stayed on a Friday night). On the whole, a wonderful night, warranting us not to take a taxi home 15 miles away!

Fantastic Stay
We stayed at Rocksalt as we were dining in the restaurant that evening. The room was excellent and ideal for us as there were two rooms, one for us and one for our 15 year old son. The rooms were finished to a very high standard and sympathetic to the original use and the surroundings. There was even a small breakfast hamper delivered in the morning. Truly amazing and definately worth the £100 we paid. We will be recommending both the restaurant & rooms to our family & friends and no doubt will make a return visit.

Folkestone is an elegant and traditional seaside resort, possessing clean, sandy beaches, a wide sweeping promenade. Eurotunnel Shuttle (also known as Le Shuttle) is a shuttle service between Calais/Coquelles in France and Folkestone in the UK. It transfers road vehicles through the Channel Tunnel, with passenger vehicles being carried in closed wagons. Roughly half of the train carries cars and other relativly low vehicles in a double-deck system, with the first and last two carriages of the section containing the off-ramps. Coaches, buses and other high vehicles travel in the single deck section, whilst in times of overcrowding cars can also use this area. Budget cuts have meant that Eurotunnel occasionaly run trains at 'half full' - closing the top deck to minimise cost.
