Super Place To Stay Between Dover & Deal
Stayed here for 2 nights and the price was reasonable for the room. The room was clean and had all you needed. Breakfast was additional £7.00 and was good. I ate one night in the restaurant, Namaste, wonderful Indian food cooked by chefs at the front of the restaurant. Plan to stay there again.

Convenience And No Nonsense
Just an overnight stop for me and location was the main driver. Just off the A258 it made it easy to get to and the room only price was pretty low. I added breakfast and for £7 it was a very decent full English with tea and cereal available too. I ate at the onsite Indian restaurant too but if that\'s not your thing you\'ll be a bit limited. Room I had was basic and in need of a refresh but clean and comfortable. Shower pressure was very week though. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

Overall I think this was good value and OK for an overnighter covering all of the basics.

Pre-ferry
The room was fine but the ensuite was very disappointing. There was almost no shower pressure and the local water being very soft rinsing off soap was a bit of an ordeal. The TV kept losing signal and 8 am for breakfast was a bit late for us so we didn\'t have any. Most other places I have stayed at in the Dover / Folkestone area start breakfast at 7 am or 7.30 am at the latest.

The restaurant was ok, but I thought the food was a little pricey. A charge of £5 for a litre bottle of water I thought was a little expensive. Luckily there is a 24 hour tesco less than 2 miles away.

I might make alternative arrangements for eats next time, I would be happy to stay there again because of its convenience for the ferry.

What A Perfect Gem
Arrived after a long day of driving to find a clean, tidy and spacious room for my friend and I. We chose to stay in for a meal and again, that was outstanding! Indian cuisine is not something I know well, but theirs was very tasty. Hotel is outside of Dover on a main, but quiet, road so it\'s easy to find and very convenient to the ferry port. Outstanding choice and would definitely book the again.

You must eat in the restaurant. Unusual and delicious options. Lamb Boti, Haraliky chicken, chilli and ginger prawns were fabulous and the freshly baked nan was superb. Very friendly welcome and good service.

The room was a good size, wifi ok and tea/coffee available But unfortunately the shower had a trickle of water and zero pressure. Carpets could do with refreshing and the paintwork is well worn. Good value for money and you are about 5 minutes from port. We will use it regularly.

Amazing Quaint Unique B&b
After the slightly strenuous walk up the hill from downtown Dover we arrived at the most lovely hotel in the UK. With a beautiful countryside view and long strolls to St. Margeret\'s, the White Cliffs of Dover, and Dover harbor, this hotel will fill your needs for a quite clean stay near beautiful sights and historical places. Be sure to visit their authentic and affordable Namaste Restaurant for Indian cuisine which is voted best restaurant in Dover on TripAdvisor and have a hardy English breakfast in the morning.

Although the rooms aren\'t in the league of high-class hotels, neither is the price and this fact should be known before booking.

The rooms are, however, clean and presentable whilst many have pleasant views over the Kent countryside.

The staff are polite and helpful - the downstairs Indian restaurant a delight for this regional food although I cannot able to award a five-star rating due to this same restaurant usually taking last orders at 20:30 hours.

But with this in mind, go anyway for a good value break - just ensure you take dinner early!

We stayed in the family room which was spacious and comfortable. Bathroom was a little tired but functional. Shower was tiny. Plenty of milk and tea making facilities in the room though and had a warm welcome on our arrival. The room itself was clean and well presented.

The thing that made it for me though was the Indian restaurant that was attached to it. I have to say that it\'s is without a doubt the best one I\'ve ever eaten at. The food is all prepared in an open kitchen and the taste on the meal was just sublime.

Stay At Swingate In To Eat At Namaste!
This is now my hotel of choice when passing through Dover - Namaste is a fabulous Indian restaurant, staying at The Swingate Inn means no after dinner driving, just a well fed stagger upstairs to a comfortable bed. The bathrooms (I\'ve stayed in 2 different rooms so far) aren\'t luxurious but they are perfectly adequate, the wifi is patchy but that\'s not a problem if all you want to do is eat and sleep. Pleasant Evening/overnight Stay
We stayed at the Swingate for one night on our way back from France. The Indian restaurant is excellent and well worth a visit. However, as I had an unsettled stomach which couldn\'t cope with spicy food that particular evening, they kindly rustled up a delicious cottage pie with fresh veg for me. Breakfast was also nice with a variety of cooked options offered. The relatively new, young, entrepreneurial owner really deserves your support so that he can continue to upgrade the hotel which already provides clean, comfortable accommodation in an easy-to-find location. Our room (9) was surprisingly quiet given the proximity to the A258. Staff were very helpful.

Ideal Stopover For Cross Channel Trips
I used this hotel as an overnight stopover on a trip to France and it was ideal for this purpose being only five minutes drive from the Dover Ferry Terminal. My room was clean and comfortable although the TV reception was very poor. The breakfast in the morning was excellent and good value. I was not overly impressed by the bar, only lager beer was available on draught and the selection of bottled British beer was very limited, it\'s a good job I like Spitfire. I didn\'t need an evening meal on my trip so I cant comment on the restaurant, all I know is that it is Indian cuisine and had a pleasant aroma, not too good if you don\'t like Indian food though.

Will Be Back Time And Time Again.
Excellent location, staff very helpful and polite, food in the restaurant was out of this world, excellent breakfast, very clean and comfortable room. I feel really pathetic saying this, but the only slight complaint is that the television in our room was microscopic. It was almost impossible to read the on screen guide from the bed and my eyesight is brilliant. Other than that, everything else was first class.

Fantastic Stay
Thank you for an amazing 2 night finish to our France holiday. For the past 2 years we have stayed in a well known chain hotel in Dover. The first year we had to complain and we were promised better service the next year however again we had to complain and both times change rooms. This led to looking for somewhere better to stay. Glad we did. The service you provided was fantastic from arrival to departure! We felt like we were welcome visitors rather than just paying guests. 2 rooms were booked (family and double, 5 people altogether) and these were side by side. Our welcome was exceptional and we were shown to our rooms where previously we have been given directions. A table was reserved for our first night for our evening meal. We were given a choice of 2 tables rather than being allocated somewhere we didn’t want to sit. The food and service were very good. There was a wedding party in the hotel that night with a disco (we had been notified) however this did not interfere with our stay, we could hear the music while dining which was quite nice and not too loud but when we returned to our rooms we were not able to hear anything from the party. We went out the following morning and came back to our rooms having been cleaned and fresh towels provided. The extra touch was when we looked at the teddy bears which had been taken with us. In both rooms the bears had been put into different poses. The breakfasts were very nice and again the service was excellent. Food was cooked as requested (one of our party likes food exceptionally well done!) one person asked for bread rather than toast and again nothing too much trouble. The bread and toast were certainly large.

The only downfall was we had to leave!

Thank you for a fantastic stay and hope to see you next year.

Mr Daniel,

Thank you very much for taking time to write us a review.

A Good Week-end
Situated ideally for both the ferry port and local tourist attractions (e.g Dover Castle), Swingate was very quiet customer-wise, but is a very nice Inn/Hotel. Accomodation very clean and tidy and quite well appointed for a very reasonable price. Food very good (esp the breakfast and the Chicken Roulade!!)and also very reasonably priced. Only downside for our stay was that there was only one decent real-ale (Coopers Butt by Theakstone)available at the time in the bar. Having said that, it was a good one!! Would definitely be happy to go back at some point.

Room At The Inn!
The Swingate Inn was a random choice. We stayed in January, ie low season. The place was quiet... not busy. The welcome we received was friendly, our room was ready, it was very clean, neat and tidy, but we did have to fiddle with the radiator thermostat a bit to lower the heat from sub-tropical! Our dinner was prepared to order, as was the breakfast. Both meals were very good value, and nothing to complain about. We would recommend the hotel to friends, and should we be in the area again we would return.

Only booked a couple of days ahead, and got a good price for a hotel 5 mins away from the port. Had a horendous journey down due to the motorways, called ahead and said we wouldn't be there until 01:30 (am!) and was told just to give them a call as we arrived and we'd be let in. The night porter must have heard us arriving and thankfully opened the doors before we got there - as it was pouring down. He then offered to open the bar for us to help us relax, so we grabbed a beer & a glass of wine, and went to our room. Nice quiet and comfy room, and a good place to stay if you're on a ferry. Dover Castle - Kent - Castle

Distance 1.34 miles (2.14 km)
At 18:57 hours on 26 May 1940, the signal was received to start Operation Dynamo the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force and French troops from Dunkirk's beaches on the northern coast of France. The network of underground tunnels beneath Dover Castle became the nerve centre of the whole operation. The best estimate was that only 45,000 of the troops could be brought back, yet Winston Churchill announced to the House of Commons on 4 June that 338,000 troops had been saved, despite the operation itself coming under attack.Today, you can experience life as it was lived by the 700 personnel based here in the worst days of the World War II. Relive the drama as a wounded pilot is taken into the underground hospital to fight for his life and see the Command Centre that Churchill visited to see the plans that helped lead to Allied victory.

Deal Castle - Kent - Castle

Distance 5.42 miles (8.67 km)
Deal Castle is one of the finest Tudor artillery works in England. It was built as part of a chain of coastal fortresses at great speed between 1539 and 1540, by order of King Henry VIII, who feared an invasion by the Catholic powers of Europe. Its squat, rounded turrets were designed to deflect incoming cannon fire and act as platforms from which to launch barrages from increasingly sophisticated artillery pieces. Along with Walmer Castle and the largely vanished Sandown Castle, Deal guarded the sheltered anchorage of the Downs the stretch of water between the shore and the infamous Goodwin Sands, a graveyard of ships. Today, you can explore the whole of the castle from the storerooms to the first-floor captains residence.
