Hotel Description

Originally built in 1879 this beautiful Victorian property was formerly used as a private residential dwelling before being transformed into the Grosvenor Hotel in 1990. Since becoming the owners in September 2008 Paul, Lindsey and their team have made huge changes to the hotel as they continually strive to improve the quality and comforts of your stay – something that is as important to them now as it did on the day that they took over. Currently operating on a bed and breakfast basis, a full locally sourced and freshly cooked breakfast is included in your overnight price. Our two guest lounges and TV room (with BT Sport) are friendly and inviting places to relax outside of your room and host a fully stocked licensed bar, a selection of freshly ground coffees and bar snacks. We have also invested heavily in a business quality WiFi set up, providing free unlimited wireless fibre broadband throughout all guest rooms and communal areas. 2014 has been a particularly big year for development as we have recently completed a £600k expansion into an adjoining property seeing us increase from 29 to 41 ensuite rooms. The new wing of the hotel opened on schedule on the 1st June and as well as the new rooms provides us with a larger breakfast room, TV lounge, new reading lounge and two new small function rooms available for hire. Being situated on the Plymouth Hoe, just 50 yards from the stunning views of the Plymouth Sound and less than 200 yards from the modern and bustling city centre, the Grosvenor Plymouth is the perfect residence for a wide variety of visitors. Whether for work, study, a holiday, visiting family or simply a well earned break, the personal touch and comforts of the hotel will certainly ensure an enjoyable stay.

Good Location, Very Clean And Friendly
Lovely hotel, extremely clean, friendly staff & a good breakfast.

Location perfect a couple of minutes stroll from Hoe park / Coast and also for the centre.

Powerful, hot shower but bed maybe a little too soft for me but did slept well. My colleague loved her bed so it is all down to personal preference!

Would highly recommend and would use again.

Excellent Hotel With Friendly Staff And Great Breakfast.
We are a family of 5 so getting an affordable hotel is a nightmare usually. However the Grovenor offered a family suite which was ideal and excellent value for money. Super clean hotel, fresh modern look with tasteful decoration and, more to the point, comfy beds, lots of pillows and a great night sleep. Quality bacon and perfect poached eggs almond with warmed soft croissants gave a great breakfast. Only downside was there were no tables for 5 so we had to use 3 tables for 2 spread out - a minor issue and kids didn’t mind at all. All staff there were extremely helpful.

One Night Stay
One night stay, central location to the Hoe, room was fine apart from being on the 5th floor with no lift, we were aware of this before we booked although we didn't know we'd get a room on the top floor. Breakfast was nice and we would stay again but would request a room on a lower floor.

Fantastic Family Room
We stayed for one night in the family suit with an18month old. I was so impressed with how suitable the room was for us. My toddler was safe to run around with no worries from me. There was so much space and it was all clean and suitable for lots of purposes (there are 2 large adjoining bedrooms plus shower room and dressing room). Staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was lovely. Only downside is that parking was a nightmare returning in the late evening, but I was grateful that the hotel are very clear and honest about their limited parking so it wasn’t a nasty surprise. We would definitely recommend The Grosvenor, especially the generous family suite.

Fantastic Stay, Comfortable And Welcoming
Very comfortable stay and welcoming staff. We stayed in the family room which was spacious and perfect for the family. Breakfast was very good and the warmed croissants was a nice touch. Again delightful service throughout breakfast. Few pointers, Accessibility was difficult in and around the hotel especially with a Buggie. We could have done with some water in the room, particularly as it was warm and tap water cloudy. We needed to keep some items cool for young children (milk) so a fridge would have been useful. The staff kindly stored it for us but we often needed it prior to reception open. The blind could not be completely closed dividing the rooms. Otherwise again fantastic stay nicely located from the various tourist activities.

Always Coming Back To The Grosvenor
This was my 4th stay at the Grosvenor on business and whenever I am working in Plymouth it is the first hotel I look to.

The rates are low but the standard is not.

The room for me on my own was clean and suitable for a one night stay over.

The breakfast options are fantastic and always of a high standard.

The only negatove on this trip was the fact someone was taking up 2 of the car parking spaces but this was not the fault of the hotels.

Will be back on the next business trip!

Prolonged Stay In Plymouth
We had to extend our stay in Plymouth due to weather conditions which meant we stayed 4 nights at the Grosvenor instead of 2! All staff without exception were both friendly and helpful and you felt nothing was too much trouble. Location is excellent and our rooms were spotless. Whilst there may be better hotels in Plymouth, the Grosvenor was excellent in what it provides and good value for money. Thanks to all the staff and we will recommend this hotel to our friends.

The Grosvenor Plymouth
This is the second time I have stayed here. As before the room was very comfortable and clean and everything was provided. Breakfast was good, it was nice to see the addition of fresh fruit at the breakfast table. I like the quiet location near the Hoe, yet within easy reach of shops and other facilities. Staff are always very friendly and helpful. Parking can be a problem but I was fortunate to be able to use one of the hotel's free spaces. Stayed at The Grosvenor for just one night and every thing was really lovely. We booked a superior room which was very comfortable, although the towels could do with being a bit bigger. The bed in particuler was extremly comfortable, so we had a sound nights sleep. Our room was also very very clean. In the morning we had a fantastic cooked breadfast, and it was great to have the option of vegitarian, which i myself had, and it was scumy, we didnt need any more food until dinner in the evening. The parking was also very good, we managed to get free parking on the premises as we arrived early, but if it is full it will only cost £3.00 per day outside the hotel which is very good.

All in all a lovely stay be it for only one night, but i would recommend longer stays too as it is in a very quite part of Plymouth Hoe. We will be returning in the near future.

4 Night Stay
The Hotel was clean and the staff friendly. But we found the breakfast room more like a works canteen, it was very noisy- possibly due to the hard table tops and lack of table cloths and the clattering of plates and cutlery by staff and guests. An improvement could also be made with the addition of fresh or even tinned fruit to the menu and a choice of pastries even. The breakfast room was also quite cramped for a Hotel. It's more like a B&B. Having said all this we had a very pleasent stay because our room was very nice and spacious and the Hotels close proximity to the Hoe was just what we wanted.

I have stayed in a number of establishments in the Hoe area. This is the best I have found. Recently refurbished to modern standards and with pleasant staff this is an excellent hotel for the money. Very good fresh breakfast. If I were to be picky they need to extend the shower curtains in the ensuite's and put a rubber mat available for the base of the bath, for shower users. Otherwise great. Good With A Couple Of Glitches
The Grosvenor is a very nice and clean place to stay with a good breakfast and friendly staff. It was good value. My only critical feedback would be: 1)I wish I had known the room was at the top of the hotel--it meant carrying a bag up 4 flights with no offer to help. 2)the thin nylon pull for turning on the bedside light had its toggle missing which made it almost impossible to use especially with hand cream.

We had a superior double which was a nicely sized, well fitted and a comfortable room. The staff were really friendly and service was excellent. Breakfast was delicious and the choice was excellent. We'd happily stay here again if we come to Plymouth for another event. The only recommendation I'd make to fellow travellers is to bring some earplugs as due to the location there was a bit of noise from outside from seagulls and a few drunk passers by, but it didn't ruin our stay at all.

All in all, highly recommended :-)

Great Place To Stay!
We chose this hotel based on its' consistently excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. The staff are superb, friendly and very helpful. The hotel has been tastefully renovated and retains many of its' period features. Our 'superior' standard room was a good size with a nice bay window. The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom adeqautely fitted out with plenty of hot water and a powerful shower. Breakfast was included in the very reasonable rate and offered a buffet cold selection with various cooked breakfast options (all cooked to order). Would definately stay at this hotel again - it makes a refreshing change from the clinical 'chain' hotels.

A Fun-packed Short Break
Our 3 nights were comfortable and exceptionally clean, the kids had their own room with 3 single beds and our double was bigger than a usual double so there was room for us all to do our own thing or play games together. The decor was unpretentious and tasteful, and furniture and fittings were good quality. The breakfast was excellent, friendly staff and comfortable breakfast rooms. The location was fantastic, less than a minute from the Hoe where the kids could burn off any excess energy (perfect for skateboards, skates and scooters). Shops and restaurants were within easy walking distance as were the Barbican, ten pin bowling, 16 screen cinema, The National Marine Aquarium, Pavillions ice rink, a short drive to The Life Centre for swimming and Dartmoor Zoo. Parking no problem as it was low season but the daily pass was only £3 anyway.

Business 1 Night Stop
The hotel was easy to find, I arrived around 18.00 & was lucky enough to find a parking space just outside, which is free after 18.00. Reception staff both welcoming & helpful. Single room (No6) offered everything you would expect. The hotel looks as though it has been refurbished quite recently, so everything still looks fairly new. The room did have a slightly strange "stale" smell, which could possibly be down to new paint & carpets? Comfy single bed, good shower & all very clean!

Breakfast (veggie) was very good. Overall I would say it's worth the few £'s more than you could find a room in the slightly shabby neighbouring hotels.

Room was very clean and comfortable with both boys in their own beds instead of the usual sofa bed ! On our night of stay we couldn't find anywhere to eat as everywhere was booked and very full so we headed back thinking what we were going to give our boys to eat . Excellent hotel with a very comfortable double room and helpful and smiling staff. We really enjoyed our stay and the Grosvenor was excellently positioned, being close to town (where wedding was) and a very short walk from the Corinthian Yacht Club (where the reception was) so couldn't have been more conveniently located. Very good value as well, being one of the more affordable places to stay in Plymouth but not lacking in quality. Only slight issue was that the curtains were hung quite a long way from the wall so when the sun was up, so were we! The owners did say that they were addressing that immediately though so it's probably already been recified. Thanks to the owners for a great stay.

Parking might be a bit of a challenge. A space was available for us behind the hotel in one of their few on site spaces. A permit for street parking is only three pounds a day. So, with parking at a premium that is not bad. We will be glad to return someday.

While the hotel itself is beautiful, the location ideal, and the food delicious, it was the staff that made the stay one of the most memorable of our lives. Mike and Sarah are the heart and soul of the Grosvenor and were a delight. Whether it was early morning directions, or a late night pint and a chat they were superb. Wonderful Stay
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at The Grosvenor. It was really value for money! The only little downside is the parking situation - there are no guaranteed parking places around the hotel, and if you find one in the evening you have to leave in the morning. Secondly, there is no lift available. But apart from these minor little hiccups there is absolutely nothing to complain about even for someone who is usually very hard to please and tends to be very critical (but then I am German, so what can you expect...)

Great location, beautiful views only meters away. Lovely historical building. Stayed in refurbished room. Wouldn't want to stay in one that hasn't been refurbished as this was lovely but bathroom way too small and in desperate need of makeover. Clean, average quality bedding and bath towels. Worth the low price. Don't expect a five star facility. But do expect clean and a good night sleep. And excellent friendly, helpful staff especially Mike and Jo. We couldn't have asked for a better experience in Plymouth. If you want to stay in something that isn't an impersonal hotel chain. This would be an excellent choice.

Very Pleasant
We had a very pleasant and good value stay at the Grosvenor over Easter. Staff were all helpful and friendly, rooms were comfortable & clean, and breakfast was excellent. Only slight complaint would be that the over bath shower was less than ideal; being situated at the side of the bath rather than the end and accompanied by a somewhat fragile shower curtain made it quite difficult to use.

Recommended But Bathroom Of 17 Needs Attention
First - the staff were all excellent. Good location near the Hoe and easily walkable from the rail station. Room ok, nothing special, but fine. My partner was very happy there was a sports bar! Well the 'bar' was the breakfast room - I might have stayed longer and bought more drinks if there had been a sofa- but suppose there's not room as it was very busy in there in the morning! Breakfast was very good and included in the price. Check in/out quick and smooth.

Only let down was the bathroom and we certainly would have asked to be moved if staying more than 1 night. He shower head just dangled from the holder (room 17) and just put water down the wall - only way to shower was to hold it in your hand. That made it impossible to wash your hair and still stand under the water. This is DEFINITLEY something that needs immediate attention. Also - the toilet did not flush well, requiring 2 or 3 flushes each time - no idea why.

If the other bathrooms work fine - then definitey recommended.

returned again for work. Hotel in good location and parking nearby on-street. Rooms are noisy due to lack of soundproofing between rooms and the fire doors that bang closed. smell of cooking reaches some rooms on 1st floor and breakfast is basic due to lack of fresh ingredients - very carb based. Slightly oddly, 1/2 all the extras like towels, biscuits, mug, choc coins, got removed after the first night. admitedly I hadnt eaten the biscuits etc but would have thought nicer to leave them than be a bit tight and remove them.

Another very satisfying stay with you. Much more updating of decor has taken place - I wanted to take some home with me!! Very comfortable bed though duvet a little heavy for us, but that's always a thing of personal choice and better to have too much warmth than not enough. Bathroom a bit on the small side and shower adequate but think an electric shower would be an improvement. Location is so convenient for theatres and Hoe etc. Next time we will ask for room on lower floor as there was a bit of a problem with the stairs but that was our mistake. Introduction of evening meals a real bonus for us and the food was well presented and adequate for our needs. The staff, as always, were very friendly and helpful - this is a hotel with a lovely, relaxing atmosphere and we always stay here whenever we stay over in Plymouth. My Third Visit.....
As it says this was my third visit to The Grosvenor in order that I might visit our Grandson. Previously I have travelled alone, but this time my husband came with me. I have now experienced both single and double accommodation. On this occasion we had a double room with bath. This hotel provides a high level of friendly service coupled with extremely clean rooms. The double room we had was of comfortable size with a BATHROOM as opposed to a SHOWER ROOM en suite. A new addition to the service is the provision of light evening meals served between 5:30 and 9:00 in the bar / lounge area. So convenient to me when travelling alone. I would recommend this hotel to anyone especially as my son (a world traveller, and his wife who arranges corporate hospitality) describes the freshly cooked breakfasts as fantastic......Jane Barnes. ps Please can the hotel amend my surname as above.

Business Stay
I stayed in a bay-windowed double room which was beautifully decorated. The bed was very comfortable and had lovely linens. The room had everything I needed - tea/coffee, biscuits, free WiFi, TV, bathroom etc. As with any Victorian house/hotel that has been upgraded to match 21st century guests' expectations, the insertion of en suite bathrooms has reduced the size and balance of the rooms but my room was perfectly spatious. The bedroom and bathroom were immaculately clean. It was great to get a freshly cooked breakfast - in fact, I was woken by the scent of bacon wafting up the stairs! The location of the hotel is perfect - so close to the sea; I sat in my bay window and watched the ships leaving port. It's a very quiet part of Plymouth - no vehicular or pub traffic - which made a lovely change. Overall, a great stay and the quality of the decor, carpet and linens and the perfect cleanliness is of particular note.

I did enjoy my stay. Unfortunately I was not very well as I was just getting over a bad virus infection.

The bed was most comfortable, one of the best I have slept in actually. I found the lighting poor as the old electric bulbs are still in use,not very good for applying make-up, low energy bulbs give off a much better light and save poswer at the same time. I did find that the chamber maid took a shortcuts, i.e. not bothering to straighten the bottom sheet before throwing the duvet over so it made me wonder what else she was slip shod with, maybe, in the en-suite where hygeine is of the utmost importance!

I was also put out with the toast. It was mostly still white bread when it was toasted. As I don't eat a cooked breakfast i did need some toast after my cereal. D Jones

We were really impressed by the Grosvenor. The hotel itself is lovely, our room really large and comfortable. Service was friendly but not intrusive. Breakfast was brilliant. Location is great, walking distance to main areas of Plymouth, parking easy. We really enjoyed.

Visiting New Grandson
I have stayed at the hotel once before in May when my grandson was born. It was a pleasure, helpful and friendly staff, superb freshly cooked breakfast. My room was a single, very clean, good hot shower, and a comfy bed.

I returned again to visit 7 weeks later, still the same ( makes a change) and it will now become my first port of call when visiting Plymouth, probably about every 7 weeks.

The Best B & B Ever
My wife and I stayed at The Grosvenor 16-17/6/11 and were more than impressed with the service and friendliness of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The Manager, Lewis was brilliant, he supplied bus timetables so that we could get to Land's End, local knowledge of the sights and even the best local pub.

Great B&b
The Grosvenor is the only B&B I will use when I have to stay in Plymouth on business. Lovely staff, nice clean comfortable rooms and a superb breakfast. Highly recommended. I would prefer toilet roll rather than a dispenser though.

A Good Straightforward Guest House
I had an enjoyable stay at this hotel. It is located 2 minutes from the sea where there are spectacular views of the bay and the cliffs. It is good value for the price (I paid £49 for a single room) clean, friendly, with a reasonable breakfast.

4-night Break In Plymouth
My wife and I are both in our 80s and decided to take a short holiday in Plymouth where we enjoyed many happy days when we still had our car. I found the Grosvenor on the internet and saw that all the reports were very positive. We were not disappointed with our stay, from the freshly cooked to order breakfast to the comfortable beds and staff who hastened to assist us whenever possible. The only problem we found was that it was extremely difficult to regulate the temperature of the shower. A very small problem because we had baths instead.

During 2001 Home Park was transformed, with three sides of the ground being completely re-built. Both the ends and one side of the ground has been replaced , by single tiered, covered all seated stands. Most impressively the corners between these stands have been filled so that the ground is totally enclosed on those sides. This just leaves just the Grandstand at one side of the pitch, as the only remnant of the old Home Park. This classic looking stand dates back to the late 1940's, is partly covered, with seating at the rear and a large terrace at the front. Home Park is the most westerly and southerly League Ground in England.
