Gem Of A Find
We booked our stay just a couple of days in advance & what a find. The hotel is set in scenic surroundings, our room was lovely. The staff really friendly & nothing was too much trouble. The food was tasty but at breakfast why 2 poached eggs but only 1 fried egg?? We will definitely stay again .

Overnight Stay
A beautiful house with lots of history. It is under new ownership and I fear it may not stay vegetarian. But, for now, the food was fantastic (very accommodating to vegans). The communal areas were comfortable and the staff very helpful and friendly. My room was awaiting refurbishment and had a funny smell, which I reported. But it was warm and spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Beautiful views and walks. Highly recommended and here\'s hoping it stays vegetarian.

Excellent Food And Friendly Service
We stayed for two nights over a weekend in January, with breakfast and dinner on both days. The dinner is incredible, especially if you are vegan: it isn\'t often you get a meal with such delicate presentation and flavour. If you have a sweet tooth I recommend the sweet chestnut dish for desert. The ingredients seemed largely seasonal as well, which is especially comforting in the winter. The breakfast was great: try the TLT if you like tofu! We stayed in the azalea suite which was spacious and very comfortable. Good deep hot bath after a day on the fells! It was quiet and peaceful and in fact the only things that woke me were a blackbird and an owl right outside the window. This is a good spot for red squirrels too. The staff were lovely and very friendly. This was our fourth visit but the first since the hotel changed management, and we will definitely be back.

Vegetarian Heaven!
On arrival, a very warm welcome put us at ease after our long drive. Despite on-going building work, which in no way affected us, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room, which we understand is next for refurbishment, was comfortable and had a wonderful Lakeland view. The quality, originality and presentation of the meals was exceptional. The chef must be particularly innovative and creative. A log fire in the lounge provided a relaxing atmosphere at the end of a day\'s walking. All the staff gave us a personalised service. We recommend Lancrigg House to all discerning vegetarians.

Perfect!
We had a wonderful stay at Lancrigg. The hotel itself is beautifully restored retaining its country house character and in the most idyllic setting on the paths to Helm Crag and Easedale Tarn with its breathtaking views and stunning waterfalls.

The staff are all absolutely lovely. It is really more like being a guest in a very welcoming home. The food was incredible - the best dinner I have had in a hotel. It was wonderful to have fresh soya milk brought up to our rooms too for making our own tea. We came back to the hotek for breakfast, lunch and dinner because really there is nowhere else locally of their standard.

What else can I say? I would recommend this hotel to anyone - vegan, vegetarian or not.

Glad To Be Back!
We used to be regulars at Lancrigg, and were really happy to see that the spirit of the place was still there after it had changed ownership. Really, this place is a gem, tucked away amid the hills of Grasmere, and we have always loved its individuality. We stayed three nights just before Christmas, and although the weather could have been kinder, the staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel immediately welcome and relaxed. The meals were imaginative, tasty, and beautifully presented. The rooms were warm, clean, and comfortable, and still kept that individuality that we cherish. We look forward to our next visit, which hopefully will be soon.

We\'d stayed a couple of years previously and it was good; this time it was even better. New owners, a different style of cooking but all improved. Rob the chef is brilliant and a special mention for Kara {or Cara!)who looked after us. In all, a memorable experience. Oh - and it snowed!

Its position nestled amongst the spectacular scenery is unrivalled, the building itself is steeped in creative and artistic history, the rooms are very comfortable and the independent heating means you can achieve and maintain the temperature that suits you best, the staff are charming and attentive yet never intrusive and the vegetarian fine-dining is quite simply the best I\'ve ever had. Great Food, Cold Bathroom.
The food was excellent - we are not vegetarians but were very impressed with the variety and flavours. Strangely, the menu that was on the website and in the file in the bedroom bore no resemblance to what was on offer when we got into the restaurant. The four poster bed was beautifully comfortable and it was nice to have the small lounge. The setting is lovely. One problem was that the rooms were cold:there was no heating on and the window was open when we arrived so it took a long while to warm up. The bathroom never got warm and we spent as little time in there as possible . Service in the restaurant was a little slow, a mistake was made with our breakfast order and they forgot the toast. When we asked about two of the walks listed as accessible from the hotel, no one could tell us the route! It would be nice to have small map handouts for guests to take with them. All in all it was a mixed experience and, considering the price, I feel work needs to be done to iron out the issues raised.

I\'ve Found A Little Haven To Escape To
Traveling with an elderly mother who has many health problems and rapidly failing eyesight we had 4 days to see some mountains and get away from doctors. I called the hotel and was put through to Robert the manager. He had a room available that was on the ground floor and promised i wouldn\'t be disappointed. When i arrived i popped in to make sure there were no steps and that the room was okay, well i could have cried as it was just beautiful. there were no steps all the way on the ground floor, the room had a four poster bed, a large bath and a bay window over looking a stream, mountains and comfortable chairs to sit and watch the world go by. Perfect. The bed was so comfortable, with crisp linen sheets and fresh white towels. Everything smelt of furniture wax and was charming, clean and welcoming.

I didn\'t realise the food was all vegetarian which at the start worried me as i thought it all nut loaf etc. well no need to worry as the standard of cooking, quality of wine and service of food was second to none.

I plan to return in the winter as Robert has promised me open fires and hot chocolate after walking in the breath taking area that surrounds the hotel.

I loved it that the hotel is down a little country road and at the end of a dead end, so no passing traffic and no noise. As you arrive at the hotel you are met with a wonderful sense of calm and tranquility that money can\'t buy, for all my hippy friends out there it is a place to meditate, take time out and just be. I have suggested that they should run courses from the hotel, like cookery classes or alternative relaxation classes. But what ever they decide to do with the little conversion of the barn, i am sure it will be with taste and will fit into the main ethos of the hotel. I can\'t wait to return with my husband for some R&C in the new year. Lets hope we get snowed in so we have to stay longer.

A September Weekend At Lancrigg
We stayed at Lancrigg originally in April 2014 and decided it was hightime for a second visit. The owners back then had been looking to sell.

And so in April this year Robert and Katrina took over. Under these circumstances one wondered what the results of the changeover might be like.

Well, the whole experience of having stayed for a couple of days does not disappoint in any way. It is like staying in an 18th century country house (which indeed it is) rather than a hotel - and one with an interesting history at that. It is sympathetic to its origins while having modern facilities and comforts. Staying is a delight, where some of the bedrooms, the guests\' lounge, the dining room and the gardens in front of the house have superb views across Easedale. The rooms are clean, light and airy with a homely feel.

But it is also open all day so that walkers (one of the footpaths to Helm Crag and Easedale Tarn passes by the front door) can stop for rest and refreshments - a nice touch is the glass urn just inside the front door from which you can help yourself to a refreshing glass of ice-cool water flavoured with chunks of fresh lemon, cucumber and strawberries. Food is also served during the day for guests, walkers and passers-by.

The restaurant is open to residents and non-residents and the tables can be re-arranged to cater for different sized parties.

One of the main attractions for us was, and is, that the menu is exclusively vegetarian. At our last stay some in the party who were not vegetarian nevertheless commented enthusiastically on the interesting range and superb quality and flavour of the dishes on offer.

And on this occasion too the food had the sort of good quality that was also interesting, flavoursome and well presented. I like to eat well presented food, rather than an art work, and this is what you get at Lancrigg.

We enjoyed our second stay so much we have already booked our next visit for the end of April next year. I think that says it all.

Still Enchanting
It was strange to return to a place that I had known so well under its former tenants; being so familiar with both its joys and anomalies, I was concerned that changes might spoil its magic. I need not have worried: the enchantment of Lancrigg remains. In many ways the house feels more awake, the fresh paint and stripped wood showing the grain of the place more clearly, though this was startling at first! Fresh decor, new art, freshly planted beds; there is so much energy in all this change, my thoughts were bouncing off in every direction. It has taken a return home and some time to digest it all! Lancrigg is now a much smarter hotel, but I was revealed that it still feels gentle, and I didn’t feel out of place in my tatty walking gear (and on the walking front, I appreciated the appearance of weather information at the front desk).

My room, Whittington, was comfortable, as always, and with smart new cushions. I was pleased to see locally sourced bath products. Since the hat stand that once stood in the room has disappeared, it would be helpful to have some hooks on the back of the door for coats.

The food was fantastic! It was wonderful to find a menu with exciting vegetarian food, which was beautifully flavoured. The food has always been nice at Lancrigg, but this was some of the most delicious vegetarian food I have tasted. I am delighted to read that Lancrigg is committed to remaining 100% vegetarian!

Thank you for a lovely stay.

Lovely But...
The setting of the hotel is idyllic, perfect for walking straight from the front door, the breakfast was delicious, the staff are courteous and helpful, and the dining room and guest room are lovely. The suite we were in, however, although quirky and authentic, was very damp and quite chilly and both the walls and the windows were very wet, which left me quite wheezy during the night. Whilst Lancrigg differentiates itself very nicely from chain hotels, £198 a night felt very expensive to be in a cold, damp room and we were both very glad to get out into the sunshine in the morning. Would definitely go back to eat but not to stay. Would give 3.5 stars if that were possible.

Quirky, Funky And Fabulous
We stayed here 16 years ago and it was just as much fun. The staff was fabulous, the view was spectacular, the food was 5 star. The bathroom was quite tiny and the room, while very large, was oddly arranged. I had to be very careful not to hit my head while walking around. The hotel was recently sold and has a new chef as well. There are rumors that it may not be strictly vegetarian in the future, which would be a shame for us, as it would prevent our stating there again.

Even though we are not vegetarian, we really like the food, which is interesting and flavoursome. Normally we prefer to explore different places, but we feel that Lancrigg merits return visits.

Will Return
This was our second visit to this lovely hotel. We like the location, close enough to Grasmere centre yet far away from the noise. The tranquility of Lancrigg makes it special. The rooms are quaint and need updating, but that doesn\'t seem to matter. You can forget your woes here and bask in the glorious views. Easy walking from the front door to Easedale Tarn, or stroll up Helm Cragg. The food is vegetarian or vegan and we decided to dine here 4 nights and try food we would never usually eat. We were not disappointed. The quality is really good. We shall return sometime next year.

Vegetarian Heaven
As a vegetarian I\'ve always wanted to stay here where as a novelty I can eat anything on the menu without worrying. I wasn\'t disappointed during our recent 2 night stay. My non-veggie husband came too and was pleasantly surprised how much he enjoyed the food and also our 2 dogs (who sadly didn\'t get to taste the food because we ate it all!). The hotel is in a wonderful position with great views, the staff are helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are comfortable and nicely kept - although I understand they are soon to be refurbished so will be even better. All in all a thoroughly good stay and the best bit is that its a haven away from all the busy tourists in the popular towns. However should you wish Grasmere, Ambleside, Windermere and Bowness are all very easily accessible from here.

A Wonderful Getaway
The Lancrigg was a wonderful getaway in the Lake District. It\'s only 20 minutes from Windermere but is a world apart from the very touristy Windermere. The rooms were recently renovated and are modern and comfortable. The food was wonderful - all vegetarian and delicious food throughout the day. It was a welcome change from the food we found elsewhere in the region. Great walking starts right outside the door and tubs back at the room can warm you up after. Wonderful service all around.

A Vegetarian\'s Dream!
Lancrigg had been on our radar for some time and we decided to give it a go even though it was apparent that it has recently changed hands and is being updated.

Our room was a suite and although it was pleasant enough, we had expected more for the cost of £200 per night B&B.

But once we had eaten our evening meal we were hooked! The food was varied, interesting and delicious. I could perhaps suggest that the morning toast could be a little more artisan but that\'s a minor point.

Also every single member of staff were attentive, went out of their way to help and were so friendly.

We will certainly return - even if we choose a cheaper room next time!

Thanks to everyone at Lancrigg!

Still a first choice for vegan Lakeland lovers. A sympathetic makeover by Rob and Simon is taking this peaceful and comfortable haven gently forwards. Standards for vegetarians and vegans are maintained at their, already high, levels; yet a little change is occuring that has built on the respected hard work of Robert and Janet over three decades.

Poor Communication
On arrival at the hotel we were given no information to time of breakfast or anything. We went out that night to arrive home at 1230 to a locked front door and had to knock loudly to wake up staff to let us in. The girl told us the door locks at 11 however we were never given that information . Poor communication . Breakfast not the best and not what I consider full English with no bacon or sausage. The rooms were clean but need updating

Rather Disappointed
An excellent opportunity for an Hotel in a perfect setting. There is a difference between character and tired and I\'m afraid there is a lot of work before this hotel meets the grade. We were told it was all due to happen and the Management know what has to be done. The problem is, at the date of writing, there is much to do. Lots of lost opportunities as to the vegan and vegetarian menu and I think many will be as disappointed as we were. The compensation was the excellent view and peaceful location. We stayed in Silver Howe but the decor and furniture did not match our expectations. The Management were very accomodating and I am sure matters will improve. We would go back again but with a different expectation.

We arrived early at Lancrigg but our room was ready and we decided to have lunch there too. A good decision. Smoked tofu and salad on a soft granary bap - so tasty and just the job! The food was exceptionally good! We have never had such amazing vegetarian food- inventive, stunningly presented and utterly delicious!

All the staff we met were warm, friendly and very welcoming.

The setting is ideal, so beautiful, full of history and a perfect starting place for many walks.

We loved our room- it was really really big and full of character. It was clean and the bed was comfortable but it did have a slightly outdated and shabby feel to it but the rest of the stay more than made up for that.

My first time staying at Lancrigg. What a beautiful place and the staff are lovely. breakfast was so disappointing, one scrambled egg tasted predominantly of pepper and the poached egg was undercooked. Whilst I would recommend, I do feel that comparatively it is a third more expensive than the other places we stayed in, whose ambience and facilities were of the same standard.

Relaxing Stay With Great Food!
Our 2nd visit to Lancrigg and we were very happy with the accommodation and the food.

We stayed in \'Dickens\' this time which was roomy enough to have a small table and chairs by the window to relax with a great view and had an uncluttered bathroom with a whirlpool bath. (Last time we stayed in \'Wordsworth\' which was equally pleasant.)

Plenty of choice for us vegans on the (all veggie) menu with some really original and tasty food. I wouldn\'t have believed a humble cauliflower could be transformed into such a scrumptious dish until I ate it!

We had heard that Lancrigg had just changed hands this year after decades with the same owner and were a little worried that the veggie ethos or quality of food or service might have suffered but were proved very wrong. Looking forward to our next visit!

Lovely Location And Good Service
The hotel is in a beautiful spot with good walks right from the door and lovely gardens for the less energetic. The beds are comfortable but the rooms could do with redecoration. New management has very recently taken over and steps have already started to improve the decor. Staff are very helpful and food is good with a choice of about 6 main meals but 2 of these are pizza which could be reduced to one with a new item added for wider choice. On arrival there was no shower curtain in the room and no shower gel or soap for the bath. A curtain was brought as soon as mentioned but it seems they only provide hand wash and hand cream. I have been provided with shower gel in places which cost far less so I feel this ought to be rectified. My stay was very pleasant and it is a lovely peaceful and beautiful place so I would certainly consider another visit in the future

Lake District Sanctuary
We had a golden evening at Lancrigg, croquet on the newly cut lawn with views of the fells which got better and better as the shadows lengthened. This was the

Lakes without the crowds - a place of total quiet with no traffic noise, only birdsong. Food was great (the sort of veggie menu that\'s almost impossible to find elsewhere), the service friendly, our only regret was that we had just a single night before moving on. The house is a bit dilapidated, but extremely comfortable, our room was inviting with a view that meant I didn\'t want to draw the curtains. We even had decent reading lights, and a super comfy bed. Lancrigg is definitely on our list for a return visit.

The food, which for us is the main reason for revisiting this hotel, was as good as ever, although we did notice the portions were somewhat smaller than we remembered from our last visit a few years ago. The staff were polite and helpful but without the warmth we had experienced before. The room (Wordsworth) was pleasant without being exceptional. Recent takeover appears to have unsettled some staff and I would suggest some updating / investment required but this could be that previous owners slacked before the end.

A Home From Home
Lancrigg has been run by the same family for 30 years, and it shows. Walking in, you are greeted warmly, like a long-lost friend. It is the \'end of the line\' up a long drive, and \'far from the madding crowd\'. A place to relax and retreat: comfortable surroundings, easy-on-the-eye decor and views to die for. The food is another matter, and this is a non-vegetarian speaking, having been introduced to the establishment by a dear, but late, friend, I continue to patronise the hotel because the food is original, innovative, colourful, filling, and tasty!

Dinner is preceded by a leisurely sojourn in front of the log fire, plied with drinks - mulled wine at this time of year - and tasty tidbits. Three hours grazing over a sumptuous 6-course Christmas feast with interesting table companions, passes in no time. At other times of the year, the meals vary regularly always with plenty of choice, and no special request is too much trouble. They aim to please! You should try it out; if you do, like me, you will find yourself coming back for more, time and time again.

You won\'t be disappointed.

Another Wonderful Week At Lancrigg
We\'ve stayed at Lancrigg many times over the last 15 years and have never been disappointed. It really has everything we could wish for: cosy and well appointed (each room has its own character - none of the antiseptic uniformity of the big chain hotels), friendly staff, outstanding vegetarian/ vegan food and ideally situated for the fells. And it\'s dog friendly; just perfect!

Lovely Vegetarian/vegan Country Retreat
Beautiful setting, very relaxing, lovely atmosphere, comfortable bedroom, great views and excellent food.

The hotel decor is looking a little tired in places but we didn\'t mind this as it adds to its charm. Everything was very clean. Staff were very helpful and very friendly.

The hotel caters very well for a vegan diet, which is rare.

Would have given 5 stars and would definitely stay more frequently but for the cost, which for me, was a bit high.

Would recommend.

There is something magical about Lancgrigg - maybe it\'s the history - Wordsworth and Dickens stayed there - maybe it\'s the lovely gardens and woods and being able to walk for miles from the door. Maybe it\'s the incredible food and comfortable rooms. The staff were delightful. A perfect place for vegetarians with dogs but anyone would enjoy the food and the ambience. We stayed in Silver Howe with wonderful views across the gardens to the hills.

I spent two days at Lancrigg this time, with my daughter\'s well-behaved dog.

I so enjoyed my stay. I was in Franklin, I have not stayed in that particular room before, but all the rooms in Lancrigg are lovely, and all different.

The staff were excellent, and I had a great choice of food, even though I would describe myself as a fussy vegan. Lancrigg is as near to perfect as a hotel could be!

Lancrigg Peace And Tranquility !
So this being the Lake District , we were very fortunate with weather . warm sun and blue skies. This made the grounds of the hotel and the valley they lie in look particularly gorgeous. it is the most peaceful and tranquil location we have ever stayed in , only really birdsong to keep you company. The hotel is delightful and the staff very friendly and helpful. The vegetarian food was delicious varied and very filling. if you want a trouser press a mini bar , Marriot points and need to check your emails very 2 minutes then this is not for you ! if however you want to escape and enjoy the peaceful surroundings ,relaxed atmosphere and some quiet time then it is a gem. Parts of the hotel are very old ,but that brings character. It has an eclectic almost bohemian feel with the room contents and decoration but that all adds to the charm. if you like wildlife then you are in luck. they also appreciate the peace and calm . We saw deer in the meadow next to the garden and a grass snake on one of the garden paths. I can honestly say that the photos on the hotel website do not do justice to the beauty of the views and surroundings. Finally don\'t be worried about Tofu chewing carrot snacking vegetarian warriors ! It is a place for nice friendly people . I ate a delicious pork pie I bought in Grasmere in our bedroom and no alarms went off !!

Hidden Gem
I read the reviews for Lancrigg on Trip Advisor. Most are excellent but the odd one complains about staff, decor and service. If like me, this makes you procrastinate, I will explain. Sure, the staff take their time over dinner (the kind of place it is, it would be upsetting if they didn\'t), but I found them 100% friendly and helpful. Sure the bedroom furnishings are a bit \'old school\' (it\'s very much a minor, personal taste matter- I\'m happy it wasn\'t IKEA), but the place made us feel really comfortable and relaxed and I doubt anyone would be scathing about the communal areas. In fact I was in complete awe. The setting is beyond beautiful and provides easy access to the best of the Lakes walks- Helm Cragg and Easdale Tarn (google image them). The veggie food is good and the history of the house and ajoining forest is magical. We had dinner with a cat and a red squirrel. I loved it. The bad reviwers must be lunatics.

A nice hotel in a lovely setting, just outside Grasmere, near Ambleside. The food was perfect and service was 10/10 too. One Night Stay
Tried the hotel as it is vegetarian, looked good in the photos, takes dogs, and I wanted to spoil my friend.

The photos and information given seriously omit the beautiful location of the hotel with magnificent, tranquil mountain views, and woods, rivers and walks all around.

Our Wordsworth room was tastefully fitted out, quirky bathroom taps and views of Wordsworth\'s daffodils and mountains beyond. The windows were drafty but you wouldn\'t want them double glazed.

I would say that the usual price per night is expensive, but I guess you are paying for the location as much as for the hotel amenities. We did get a small last minute reduction.

The staff were very friendly, balance of locals and overseas students. Food very nicely done. There is no bar but a cosy sitting room.

We would certainly return but may have to save for a while!

Warm And Inviting In First Class Location
My first trip to the The Lake District and I found out about Lancrigg by chance via the internet. The weekend was also a special birthday treat for my youngest teenage daughter who is also a vegetarian. The staff at Lancrigg are very friendly and accommodating and the food was a delight. I\'m not a vegetarian so it made a nice change in not having to pick meat or fish on the menu. We stayed in the Silver Howe room with a put-me-up bed for one of my daughters and there was still plenty of room for a two night stay. The location is stunning and the amount of local walking trails on the doorstep made it very easy for a first time visitor like myself to confidently explore with no knowledge of the area. Grasmere is a delightful village and I have to admit my daughters and I came away feeling like we\'d been away for a lot longer than 2 nights which says a lot about Lancrigg, their staff and the idyllic location.

Great Weekend
Very pleasant stay in a fascinating and historically interesting old country house. We are not vegetarians but both enjoyed the food. Try the vegetarian fish and chips with your eyes closed and you would be hard pushed to say it wasn\'t fish. The setting is ideal, Helm Crag is on your doorstep and we walked over to Langdale and back to Easdale Tarn without using the car all weekend.

Downsides are that the Wi Fi hardly worked, the TV reception was so bad it was unwatchable and there was a problem with the hot water.

However it is a mark of how good our stay was that this barely dampened our stay and we would both thoroughly recommend Lancrigg to anyone interested in either the Lakes or walking or both.

Love This Place!
Have just spent 2 nights at Lancrigg and had such a lovely time. The hotel is so cosy and comfortable and the staff are really welcoming, helpful and gay-friendly. We had stayed here before and returned for a post-Christmas treat. We love the location as it\'s perfect for walking and the scenery is stunning. We had dinner both nights and the food was delicious - I am gluten and dairy-free as well as vegetarian and eating out is normally difficult but not at Lancrigg, where I had loads of choice. Breakfasts were also really tasty with gluten-free bread available as well as all the naturally gluten-free options. A really nice touch is the complimentary tea and coffee when you arrive (on top of the tea and coffee-making facilities in the room) and the quality, cruelty free and natural-ingredients toiletries. We stayed in the Wainwright suite, which is over 2 floors - this was perfect for us as our dogs slept in the downstairs area and we had the cosy bedroom with the four-poster bed to ourselves! This place is very special and we are already saving up for our next visit.

Wonderful Christmas!
We\'ve just returned from spending a wonderful Christmas at Lancrigg.

We stayed in the Silver Howe room which had beautiful views over the mountains and was very comfortable.

The atmosphere was very relaxed, friendly and homely and the staff were very welcoming.

The location cannot be bettered - one direction straight to the mountains and a beautiful valley and the other a ten min walk into the centre of Grasmere.

The food was amazing. We are vegans and , of course, this is where Lancrigg excels as it specifically caters for vegetarians, vegans and those with special dietary needs such as gluten free. Usually we end up rowing with hotel managers as they invariably say they can cater but haven\'t a clue ( ie recently we were fed shredded carrot and cabbage with various additions such as walnuts, pomegranate and various sauces Eight weeks in a row at a business networking event!! We also start to resemble a fruit salad for pud too! ) Here though, even normally meat eating partners of other guests were impressed with the enormous imaginative buffets, vast breakfasts and seven course Christmas lunch. We think we put on about a stone!

Will definitely return next Christmas and during the year too

Our room was Silver Howe - comfortable bed and great views over Easedale - we didn\'t mind the \'colourful\' bath. Lovely toiletries too, from \'Pure Lakes. Will definitely return.

Another Fabulous Weekend
Having stayed here a number of times before ...it was re-assuring to find that nothing had changed ... except perhaps the food was even better than we remembered. This weekend was a special one \"celebrating Christmas in November\" with sparkling wine offered with Breakfast on Saturday, and a magnificent festive five-course vegan-friendly banquet on Saturday evening. Wonderful ... hope to return in the Spring

Fantastic Stay
Lovely relaxed hotel, both ourselves and our dog made very welcome. The lounge is cosy and comfortable perfect place to relax with a drink, delicious home cooked food served in an eclectic but elegantly decorated dining room. Our room (nightingale) was adequate nicely decorated with a small tv, lovely organic locally made toiletries provided in a clean, functional bathroom. Not a modern characterless hotel but a home away from home with amazing views and grounds to explore and admire.

Tranquility In A Beautiful Setting
The description of the hotel is accurate. The location, atmosphere and staff service are all superb. The food is excellent and the guest lounge and dining room are lovely. Everything is very clean and well presented. The only minor issues (based on the room we had) are the in the need for some attention to decor, to bring the standard up to what one might expect for this type of hotel (small paint and wallpaper areas for example).

Why not visit Lancrigg for afternoon tea or evening meal as a taster of the place and of the excellent vegetarian food.

A Special Place To Stay
We first visited Lancrigg in the 1980s, not long after it was opened as a Vegetarian Country House Hotel. It is still under the same stewardship as it was then (much to our approval). For us, Lancrigg is special. The location offers fabulous views; the place is far enough outside the centre of Grasmere to be peaceful, yet it\'s only a 15-20 minute walk into the village centre. Inspiring walks onto the fells can be done from Lancrigg itself, without the need to travel elsewhere. The food is truly superb and also imaginatively prepared. For vegetarian or vegans, it\'s a rare jewel. Admittedly, this place might not suit everyone - there no hint of the bland corporatism that is so common nowadays. The wi-fi is not great and the television in our room had a few reliability problems. But maybe that\'s not a bad thing. After all, those things should not be a high priority when visiting such a magnificent part of the world. It\'s certainly a highly individual, characterful place, managed by delightful and very helpful people. Possibly some may find it slightly quirky compared to other places, but for a relaxing few days in unrivalled surroundings, with excellent food and at a very reasonable price, it\'s at the top of our list.

We loved staying at lancrigg! It is in such an idyllic setting that driving up we were both so excited. The staff were friendly and really helpful, the room had the most amazing views and a comfortable bed and the food was amazing! My boyfriend states that it was the best breakfast he ever had!

There were so many walks right from the door of the hotel and after a wet and wonderful walk we had a lovely relaxed afternoon in the hotel lounge playing games and feeling utterly relaxed and at home.

We will definitely be back!

Lovely Stay!
We booked to stay here quite late in the day as we had a change of plan. The staff were extremely friendly and we were delighted to be offered complimentary tea on arrival served in our room. It was much appreciated after a long journey! The decor is a little dated, but it\'s very in-keeping with a beautiful old building and the whole hotel is incredibly welcoming. Breakfast was delicious! My meat-eating boyfriend also enjoyed it! :) Thank you very much!

Pure Relaxation
From the moment you arrive you feel like you are being welcomed into someone\'s home and as you sip your coffee on the terrace in the sunshine you\'re glad you returned.

Having left the four kids at home with the grandparents it\'s great to just completely unwind and there\'s no better place to do it. Some people may not like the fact that you might have to go and ring the bell to get someone\'s attention in the middle of the day, but I much prefer that to attentive staff hovering!

After a busy day walking you enter the comfortable lounge, where some dress for dinner and others (me) go in their socks. It takes a couple of days to realise that it\'s not really possible to consume all the courses without feeling a bit full, although it could be the amount of organic beer or wine you had with it that may have been the problem.

Then to bed for a quiet night\'s sleep in readiness for more food to be consumed at breakfast.

Have stayed here occasionally over the last 16 years, with and without children and, although we have other holidays, these are the best for recharging the batteries.

I felt completely nurtured by your kind attentive staff who helped me with my bags, brought food to my room a few times and even gave me some elastoplasts for my blistered feet! Such a charming room, or rather, suite, (Wainwright)- amazing mattress on the cosy bed and great bath. The food as ever nutritious and delicious. Topped off with an excellent reiki from Liz. I feel truly rejuvenated. You have such a special place. Thank you so much. My only criticism is that the shower was not that great and how about just getting rid of the old tv? Pleasant Stay
We booked this at the last minute and there was some mix up with the rooms which meant we stayed in a separate house five minutes walk away. Not too much of a problem although it wouldn't have been much fun walking over for dinner if the weather was bad. The room was nice, the food good (and lots of it) and the service pleasant. It isn't the most modern of places and some might say it needs a significant makeover but it seems popular and I suppose the owners feel "if it isn't broken, dont' fix it!" The one thing you can't beat is the location, perfect for enjoying all that the area has to offer which is lots.

Hidden Gem In Grasmere
We stayed at the Lancrigg foe only one night en route to Dumfries and Galloway. The hotel is just outside Grasmere, in a wonderful location with fantastic views.

The building has retained its Victorian character and style but still offers bright and comfortable rooms.

We aren't veggies but decided that we could exist for one day without meat. We ate dinner in the small, intimate restaurant and were very impressed with the choice of menu and the quality of the food. Breakfast was equally good. Only negative comment would be about the choice of 'background' music. Personally would rather not have had any at all. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Idiosyncratic Comfort
Lancrigg offers all the idiosyncratic and faintly odd pleasures of a Victorian retreat in the Lake District -- bow windows, lace curtains, chandeliers, pot-plants, fires, miscellaneous framed watercolours and embroideries -- combined with all that is needful for the modern weary -- bookcases, sofas, games, massage, tea, good food and wine, and above all, profound peace and quiet. The views are spectacular, the walking is excellent, and the grounds are romantic, extensive, and packed with literary association. The staff will give you a flask of tea and a packed lunch for your day out, discuss maps, walks, and your nutritional needs. Other guests are typically blessedly quiet and discreet. The only thing I wanted extra was a hotwater bottle to fill up myself -- and only because I was exhausted with travelling. Take a swimsuit if you want to take advantage of their arrangement with the local spa.

This is a great old house and must take a considerable amount of funds to maintain and this is reflected in the fact that it is not fitted out with the most up to date furnishings and equipment. Showers are a little under powered, TV with only a few channels, but wowser with a view like we had outside our bedroom window who cares.

It has a very cosy atmosphere totally in fitting with the history of the building and location but if you are staying please take into account that this is not Claridges and that the owners are are managing to keep a fine building going under what I suspect are difficult economic times so give it and them some allowances when staying and you will be well rewarded.

Lancrigg - Gourmet Relaxation!
My oldest friend and I stayed at Lancrigg and ate breakfast and dinner on each of the 3 days we stayed (in Feb 2014). We are both 47 year old seasoned travellers and were in need of a relaxing break and that is exactly what we had. The food was superb and excellent value for gourmet vegetarian. Vegan and other dietary needs well catered for and a good wine list. Accommodation very good, lovely views and excellent walks from the door. Not that we did much walking apart from to Grasmere to the fabulous bookshops, tea rooms and pubs. Highly recommended for adults and also for families.

A Complete Joy.
We had the Wainwright suite which suited our desire for occasional solitude and found the guest lounge to be perfect for light chat and seemingly endless cups of tea - on which note it was a delight not to have to resort to our own stock, as at most hotels.

The food alone was worth the cost of our stay - being fussy (about the quality and blending of ingredients) and not desiring the auto-condimendation of dishes means that most eateries fall far below what we would be prepared to eat at home but Lancrigg served not a dull morsel over the four days of our stay.

The setting is ideal, the staff intelligently intervene only when desirable and the building is a grand example of a quirky and characterful older property.

We will certainly return.

A Few Days Break
This is a special hotel, slightly different to the average - it is the beautiful setting with views over the valley, traffic free and very quiet. The historic building is very interesting and it feels like staying in a very comfortable country home with Wellies at the door, big fires and very welcoming people. The food was lovely and we felt so healthy eating veggie food for a few days. Thee are walks straight up into the hills from the house so you don't need to use your car at all and it is a nice walk into the village where there are shops and restaurants. We would recommend to our friends for anyone wanting quiet restful relaxation and healthy food and walks, or anyone wanting to write or reflect or just have a nice break

A Very Pleasant Stay
Although an historic building, it has been tastefully modernised with all the conveniences one would expect (though in our room (“Easedale”), one needed a certain agility to use the bath/shower!)

The location is superb, in the quiet side valley of Easedale. For hillwalkers, it has the attraction that one can enjoy many excellent excursions without the chore of driving and then finding somewhere to park; Helm Crag, Steel Fell, the Langdale Pikes and even Helvellyn are all within reach on foot.

I must, of course, mention the food. Although my wife and I are not vegetarians, we do often eat such meals at home, so it was very interesting and satisfying to try the menu here. We sampled a fair range during our three day stay and found it all delicious, varied and beautifully presented. We never noticed the absence of meat!

The pleasure of our stay was greatly enhanced by the enthusiastic and very helpful staff – nothing was too much trouble for them.

One slight drawback, for a fellwalker, is the lack of a drying room (even the humble youth hostel down the road possesses such a facility). On one occasion, a helpful young lady took some wet trousers of mine to the tumble drier, but this would not really be practicable if a large number of guests had got thoroughly soaked on the fells, especially for their rucksacks and boots.

Overall, though, we feel it would be well worth staying there again.

Even though we were late arriving we were met with an offer of refreshments. We were shown to our rooms - not just given instructions on how to get there - and made to feel welcome.

Rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. Desoite there being several guests in residence it was very quiet.

Scenery was great and the hotel was conveniently located for several nice walks.

Breakfast was from a range of cereals followed by a selection of hot items and also toast and coffee or tea.

Those serving were very pleasant and efficient.

My wife and I have visited you annually for 6 years. The first time we were shown the room of our dreams but could not stay at that time, we haven't managed it since until now. It's been a dream come true the place oozes history you occupy the same space once occupied by literary greats whilst treated to a room with a view to die for!

Don't get me started on the food I'm not vegetarian ! But if all of the so called vegetarian options available when dining out we're a patch on the food in your restaurant I would convert tomorrow! The flavours textures the cleanliness of the palate, i only wish i were a good enough cook to replicate it, no reliance on heavily seasoned sauces here!

In short we loved it the staff were welcoming and friendly I can't fault it thank you so much

Wonderful As Always
We have returned to the Lancrigg year after year. It provides a cosy, clean and relaxing environment. The truly lovely owners and staff always have a smile for you and nothing is ever too much trouble. The food is innovative and delicious and being a vegan, there is always lots of choice. We have been to the Lancrigg in all seasons, each offering a different experience, but all equally amazing with memorable views in a tranquil location hidden away in a quieter part of the Lake District. Only a 10 minute walk takes you into what in my opinion is the prettiest village in the Lakes, Grasmere and somewhat less busy with unique shops and cafes filled with charm and local characters...

When life is hectic, we pause, think a while and always come to the same conclusion.. we need look no further than a few days at the Lancrigg. As you enter the drive leading up to the charming property, deer can often be seen only a couple of meters away, the large old trees, and rolling river enchant you and before you know it, the stress of modern day life has vanished.

Great Food, Comfy Rooms, And Amazing Setting
We stayed at Lancrigg at the first leg of a road trip up to the Hebrides and back to London. It was some of the best food we had the whole trip, including the veggie food in London, and Lancrigg's gluten free bread was some of the best I've ever had. The rooms were cozy with beautiful pastoral views and very comfortable beds (only downside being the weak water pressure in the showers that made showering difficult, but the unique charm of the place certainly outweighs this minor inconvenience). The views are gorgeous from inside and out, and you can eat outside at tables overlooking the emerald lawn and hilly pastures beyond. The hotel grounds of ferny woods, ancient moss covered rock walls, and quiet ponds along with the adjacent National Trust land made for an excellent evening walk full of discovery and a vigorous morning run up the amazing dry-laid stone staircase to the crag that overlooks the valley. We would definitely stay here again. It would make a great place to relax over a few days, hike about, and enjoy being well fed.

Im very glad we booked at Lancrigg Vegetarian Hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and we will definitely be back next summer. The food was out of this world! We have never tasted such good English food before and we have stayed at a fair few hotels within the UK, so well done guys. The only thing I would improve is getting a bigger microwave as it was apparently to small to fit our babies bottle steriliser in which meant we had to sterilise the bottles using Milton tables which isn't our preferred way however this is just a suggestion, nothing persnonal.

I have pasted in below the review I have just submitted to Tripadvisor:

Although we are relatively frequent travelers, this is the first time I have felt that I really wanted to submit a review to Tripadvisor. But this hotel deserves it.

Do not expect a glitzy modern hotel. Instead, a stay here feels more like a visit to a friend's country house with all the quirks and individuality that implies. As such the service is informal, but the staff try really hard to please and they succeed.

As a vegetarian hotel, the food is, of course, an essential part of what the establishment has to offer. In my opinion the food is outstanding, the attention to detail is obvious and the choice is large.

Finally, the setting is magnificent.

Our Favorite Place To Stay In The Lakes
We are a family of four (with 2 young children)and frequent visitors to the Lake District. We have stayed at Lancrigg on 5 occasions and experienced the hotel as a wedding venue and as a weekend getaway.

The location of the hotel is perfect for us, with stunning scenery from all views and walks straight from the door for all members of our extended family who will often join us during our stays.

The food is excellent as is the service provided, the only frustration is not having the time to try everything on the menu.

The rooms are full of character and have a real 'country house' feel. If you are looking for a soulless Travelodge type room, then Lancrigg may not be for you. And don't be put off by it's formal looking outward appearance, you will be made to feel extremely welcome by its owners and at ease wondering around the beautiful grounds and relaxing having a drink in the lounge.

We look forward to our next visit.

Lancrigg is our favourite hotel in the world because it offers a friendly, personal service in a fantastic location with first class food. All the rooms are individual and full of character, and there are numerous superb walks from the hotel doorstep. A completely relaxing break is assured when there is never any concern about the quality of the food or its preparation, and there is always a good range of intriguing choices on the menu; there is a great list of wines and beers to work through, and the environment is one of the most beautiful anywhere and feels marvellously detached from the tribulations of the modern world. The staff are friendly and without apparent effort create an over-riding atmosphere of calm and well being that makes staying at Lancrigg such a great pleasure. Relax And Unwind
I have stayed at Lancrigg on many occasions over the last 20 years and always return as I can be sure of great food and wine, an open fire with friendly accommodating staff. The setting and character of the place is wonderful. I was anxious when I read that Lancrigg may be sold as I fear the qualities offered may diminish. It is so nice to be able to choose from the total menu as a vegetarian rater than having to settle on the veggie option. Please stay as wonderful as you are Lancrigg.

Another Lovely Stay
Having visited twice in the past, and enjoyed the luxury of being able to eat vegan in such style - we decided to spend a couple of days at Easter at Lancrigg. Again, the food was wonderful, the welcome from all the staff was warm and friendly - and we left wishing we were staying longer. What more can we say? Looking forward to the next visit

Excellent Hotel And Amazing Food
A fantastic stay at Lancrigg. The food was amazing, every meal a delight. Staff were helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. Our room was cosy and clean and with lovely old pieces of furniture. The location is quiet, beautiful and stunning. So lovely to be able to walk from the door. We loved it so much we had to stay for an extra night!

Our third stay at Lancrigg and I think that the food was even better than ever. The joy of looking at a fairly extensive menu and being able to choose anything on it - not just the few vegetarian choices. Excellent Weekend Break
We had previously eaten at Lancrigg but not stayed there, so it was fantastic that our expectations were matched - the room was spacious and comfortable, the view from the window excellent and the grounds ideal for a quiet stroll. The only problem, as ever with the Lake District, is the number of excellent restaurants and cake shops to choose from, but the breakfasts were superb and the evening meal delicious, especially the (normally humble) salad.

Vegetarian Heaven
There is so much care taken here - over the food, the decor, the grounds, the welcome. It feels like a high-class establishment but at the same time it's a relaxing, friendly place to stay. The location on a no-through road on a quiet lakeland valley is divine.

This was the second time I had stayed at Lancrigg having been there 5 years ago and , luckily, it hadn't changed. The ambience is exactly as it should be - in keeping with the environment, which is beautiful, and the food was lovely and all the staff friendly and professional.Personally, I wouldn't want to change anything about Lancrigg.I shall certainly be back (in the vain hope that they will find the pink tee shirt I left there 5 year's ago).

Fabulous Stay At Fantastic Hotel
Return visitors (after a long absence) to fondly remembered Lancrigg, and the only changes are good ones. New bathrooms, even more attentive staff, excellent, varied menu and a wine list to make choosing a drink the most difficult decision all stay!

Robert and his team know exactly how to make guests feel welcome and looked after without 'smothering' you, the house has soul and character (we stayed in the Wainwright room, heartily recommend it) and the location is pretty much perfect for exploring Grasmere and the Easdale valley.

Excellent Activity Break!
Staying at Lancrigg is a unique experience, set in a wonderful valley just outside Grasmere. The hotel is warm, comfortable and friendly. Our bedroom ('Dickens') had wonderful views across to Silver Howe. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather, and there are good walks directly from the door. The breakfast menu offers great choice and can be, if you so choose, substantial. The evening menu is very imaginative and everything we tried was delicious. Normally it rains in the Lake District but this time we had 4 superb days walking. It was definitely a good place in which to recover in the evenings.

Idyllic Location
Having been told of Lancrigg by friends, then finding further details on the internet, there was very little stopping my vegan partner and I from booking to stay here for our weekend getaway in the Lake District.

The phone reservation was handled swiftly and efficient, but a new computer system led to me having to chase up the booking confirmation a couple of times.

Arriving at Lancrigg was easy (Sat Nav definitely helped in the dark!) and the hotel is beautiful. Although we arrived much later than expected, the welcome was still very warm and friendly. Everything was explained and we were shown to our room (Azalea). The room was spotless, spacious and had everything we were looking for.

The grounds and view from the hotel and our room were magnificent and we were able to grab a bite to eat at a reasonably late hour, which was very much appreciated. The location is spectacular and one of the main reasons we chose here for a 2-night retreat away from it all. A short walk from Grasmere and a short drive to Ambleside and Windermere is an ideal position and base for wandering around the fabulous countryside.

The food was excellent throughout our stay here and the choice of food and wines was very good.

The staff were all very attentive, polite, helpful and respectful. The only slight niggle we had was that being the only couple the presumed-Manager/Owner gentleman ignored in the dining room one evening was rather rude and unnecessary!

However, we would definitely stay here again and would have no hesitation in recommending Lancrigg VCHH to anyone.

A huge 'Thank you' to all other members staff, particularly the Estonian blonde-haired female (whose name I didn't catch) who was very helpful throughout.

It's well worth staying here, moreso if you're vegetarian or vegan.

An Anniversary To Remember
My wife and I just returned from Lancrigg for a 3 night getaway to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We're both vegan, both nature lovers, and found Lancrigg by accident online.

We're both very glad we went.

The room was lovely (The Whittington) with small windows but a nice view of the front lawn (where we would find wild rabbits at play each morning) and the beautiful landscape beyond.

The staff were great - friendly and helpful, always on hand when we needed them, but invisible when we didn't (the perfect blend for us).

And the food...The Lancrigg has a very talented chef whose food has to be sampled. Mushroom roulade was a particular favourite of ours. Even in this day and age, as vegans it is rare to eat out and be able to order a multitude of fine foods from the menu. Our taste buds and stomachs were spoiled rotten during our short stay.

Add to that the lovely walks and climbs nearby, it was the perfect weekend. Our thanks extend to everyone at Lancrigg, both visible and behind the scenes, and we shall return.

Beautiful Views, Delicious Food!
We really enjoyed our restful three night stay at Lancrigg and will definitely come again! We arrived in snow, quickly followed by sunny weather which created a really beautiful landscape to walk in - though very soggy underfoot! After a wonderful breakfast, it was great to be able to walk directly from the hotel and quickly feel surrounded by the hills. We also unexpectedly saw a wild roe deer roaming the hotel woods. We particularly loved having these views from the bay window in our room - The John Richardson Room (lower floor room with its own private external door - so useful).

The room was very spacious and therefore needing an extra heater and blankets - which we were happily given - but then it was February with snow! The roll top bath gave plenty of hot water, quickly filling the bath and the connecting shower had good pressure . A lovely addition were the locally handmade, chemical free toiletries that were provided. Also within the room, were tea making facilities with a range of teas and coffee, refreshed daily.

The restaurant food was excellent (delicious and well presented) with a variety of choices with each course.

The lounge, with the log fire, was extremely cosy and a pleasant place to sit and meet other guests.

The staff were all friendly and helpful making us feel very welcome throughout - thank you.

Winter Break
The Lancrigg provided a very comfortable and friendly place for our 3 nights stay in the Lakes. The room was comfortable, and it was a pleasant change to find a hotel specialising in vegetarian and vegan food. The food was of excellent quality and it was very restful to be able to relax round a real log fire after dinner whilst the snow was falling outside. The menu would have benefitted from either a daily 'chef's special' or a bit more variety day to day. That said, all the dishes were extremely good.

Cosy Christmas
We drove through clouds of mist and heavy rain to reach the Lake District, commenting that thank goodness we had been before as we were obviously not going to have any scenery to view, then as if by magic the clouds lifted just after Penrith and the mountains soared into sight. The hotel must give credit to its setting for its life-enhancing qualities, but what it has over other hotels in the area is its atmosphere. You feel like you are a guest in a beautiful Victorian country house that just happens to be vegetarian, thus giving more choice than non-carnivores usually avail of. The real fire in the sitting room added to the atmosphere and I found the other guests friendlier than strangers sometimes are in other hotels. Was this the result of the ambience/Christmas spirit? Our room the Darwin was pleasant enough,we managed to have a sneak look at others before leaving and found you got what you paid for - the dearer rooms were much bigger with better views and some of the cheaper rooms were quite small. Darwin was fine. The staff were friendly, accommodating and eager to please and we felt well looked after.

An Oasis Of Calm And Beauty With Wonderful Vegan Food
This was our second visit to Lancrigg - so obviously we had enjoyed the first! The welcome from Robert and all the members of staff was again as warm as the weather was chilly - and again we were impressed by the superb value. The lovely scenery - happily visible from the public areas and, also on this occasion from our magnificent room - completes the experience. Having first become aware of Lancrigg some years ago, when I sampled some of Robert's cooking at a London exhibition, I can only say to anyone reading this - this is the best vegan food you will find anywhere - a bonus for it to be so delightfully located. Looking forward to the next visit

Arriving at Lancrigg Vegetarian Country House Hotel;with 2 of our elderly.(not veggies!) relatives..we were greeted with a wonderful tray of tea from Mike;and a friendly smile... our relatives loved this...

We were shown to our rooms... 1 ground floor.. John Richardson room.. and upstairs Dickens room .(we have had this room 4 times).. not bragging, just to say is our favorite.. wonderful,breathtaking views;

we met later(unpacking first!) and our relatives thought their room was just fine, they were tickled at the bath in the room with lace curtains around it! caused quite a giggle for them.. they said the bed was comfortable/plenty of space/and loved the decor..clean/and they loved the food..well presented, tasty.

We have now been 7 times to Lancrigg, so i think it speaks for itself! We always feel special// NEVER IGNORED AT Lancrigg!

The rest of the house has beautiful rooms , all different, interesting.. and is stooped in history.. I love the diningroom.. and the lounge has a log fire which we sat for our teas and coffee.. putting the world to rights!!! you should go and call in for a coffee.. im very sure Lancrigg will be on your next holiday list!!!

Another Wonderfull Break
We have stayed at Lancrigg over many years, in fact I proposed to my wife during a February stay ,yes the 14th, on a walk up to Easdale Tarn many years ago. Needless to its a specvial place for us both.We continue to stay for a "Treat" and this last visit was as a birthday present for me ,and for us it did not disappoint! We were in Whittington Room that is fine for us, low ceilings , but we need floor space for the dog.

We now tend to go for short breaks as the quantity of food for us is too much, but what a chioce. I admit I am not a Vegetarian but really enjoy all the Vegetarian choices at Lancrigg and I love to see my wife, a "Veggie" have so many options.

The Hotel is "Old" and for us has a certain charm, since our last visit the bathroom in our usual room has been upgraded, a differant bed but the charm remains.

If you want a modern "Boutique" rooms go elsewhere but for a cosy break with log fires and comfortable settes in the lounge thid is the place.

Staff friendly and attentive , room cleaned to an excellent standard.

We enjoyed it again, and we ate some wonderful food.I have looked on other review pages and feel some people who have posted, especially one, who says do not stay in the Whittington room are on a differantn plant. Phone the Hotel ask about the rooms and choose one that suits you. While checking out one of the staff went to great lenghths to explain the rooms available.

SO JUST ASK,SAY WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE, and as far as we are concerned you will get it if humanly possible!!!!

Perfect Spot For Vegetarians
Lancrigg Country House is a lovely building in one of the most beautiful spots in the country. Enjoying commanding views over Easedale, the hotel sits in the shadow of Helm Crag and the famous Lion and Lamb outcrops. It is a 10 minute walk from the centre of Grasmere with its fabulous coffee shops and world famous Gingerbread shop.

The hotel is full of character and charm and our room, the Franllin, was furnished with an extremely comfortable double bed. The ensuite had a luxurious full-sized bath and the toiletries, supplied by Pure Lakes, were gorgeous. My only minor criticism is that the decor is slightly tired and in need of a refresh.

The real star of the show is the restaurant. Staffing is lean though they were swift and attentive. The menu is fantastic and the food quite superb. Vegans and lactos alike will be spoiled for choice and we definitely had our best meal out for years.
